Iphone 4 & bluetooth headset issues
I've noticed ongoing issues with my iphone 4 and bluetooth connectivity issues. I can be on a call and put my phone in my pocket and the bluetooth connection from the call will drop and I have to pull the phone out of my pocket for it to reconnect.
This periodically will also happen with me sitting on my sofa and the phone on my coffee table. This with the same headset (jawbone icon) that I would previously use with my iphone 3g with no issues and even move all around my house with at times.
Anyone else having these types of sporadic bluetooth connectivity issues with their iphone4???
Apple has replaced my phone twice and not until this last time have they even admitted that they are seeing this issue at all. I appreciate their support but I have not liked being made to feel like I'm the only one having this issue at all. I know I'm not crazy nor am I technically challenged!!!
Responses please............ I'm trying to narrow down if this is a hardware or software issue or possibly a combination...
I will certainly share all info gathered or related to me!!
Thanks,

I have a hard time using my stereo headphones with my 3GS. When my phone is in my side pocket they cut out all the time when cutting grass so holster my phone and put it on the very back of my belt so it doesn't cut out as much. Not much of a talker so I havnt used my samsung headset too much. But good luck in finding something to work for ya.

Tom, I frequently would have problems with my Jawbone Icon randomly disconnecting from my iPhone (3GS and then 4) and then reconnecting several seconds later. It used to happen with my Jawbone 2.
I think the connectivity problem has something to do with the Jawbone, and I've seen similar complaints online from other Jawbone users (on Jawbone's own website, I think). A little more than 2 months ago, I bought a new vehicle. My new vehicle has built-in Bluetooth. I can't think of one time during the past two months or so that my vehicle's BT has disconnected from my iPhone. Thus, if you have access to another BT device, I recommend trying it.-Jay

Jay,
I've had much more of an issue with the jawbone icon and the iphone 4, where I never had an issue with my icon and my iphone 3g.
I bought a new sound id 5 to use with my iphone 4 and it was not as bad initially but now seems to be doing the same thing as the icon. That tends to make me feel like it's an iphone 4 thing."Things should be as simple as possible but not one bit simpler"

That's interesting, Tom, because I'm pretty sure that my iPhone 4 worked better with my ICON than my 3GS did. However, I couldn't swear to it.
Have you tried contacting the Jawbone folks?-Jay

I haven't Jay, but maybe I should try that...
I can't seem to quantify this whole thing...
I have however made a couple of observations..
1st) The bluetooth quality seems to be worse when I have wifi on.
2nd) The bluetooth headsets seem to work better after a restore up until I pair my apple bluetooth keyboard with the phone.
I say both of these things with tongue in cheek.. cause I can't swear to either. This is an ongoing attempt to ascertain exactly what is going on, but I don't work for apple and am a little busy living my life to quantify every aspect of what may be happening with these electronics.
This is disappointing from the standpoint that every since my very first iPhone I have loved the fact that I never had to fiddle with them but rather I'm just able to intuitively get things done. And when I say this, I mean real world useful things that add to my quality of life/productivity (not that it cures diseases or anything, lol)
Time will tell... I anxiously await this next update. Bluetooth is just a huge part of my phone useage. It's the primary way I use the phone portion of the device. I just need handsfree to get things done (I have no home phone). So I'm hoping for better bluetooth performance in this next update... So far it's been a real drag and kills my flow..
I may not be such an early adoptor next time around. We'll have to see what happens... I'm starting to suspect the iphone 4 has issues that apple is just not admitting to.. but will probably be sure to take care of with the next iphone release

I feel your pain, Tom. When I was regularly using my ICON (and before than, my Jawbone 2) and experiencing the same problems you are, I found it a huge pain and extremely annoying (and especially vexating because the drops seemed somewhat random). I agree that reliable Bluetooth headset connectivity is a critical part of phone usage, especially in this day and age of laws that require drivers to use handsfree systems/headsets.

No doubt Jay...
You would think Apple most certainly would make fixing this bluetooth issue a priority!!
They have to be aware of it!!!
I guess we shall see what happens with the next couple of updates. I hate to start thinking EVO or some type of droid for the next phone (as I am an iPhone man) but they are getting much better and much closer to being able to get things done like an iPhone...
The 2 main things that drive me crazy about an iPhone is not being able to respond to meeting request unless I have my exchanger server calendar set to sync and this bluetooth issue.
These are pretty basic issues. One can only hope the makers of the worlds greatest phone will address!!!

I found this thread among others that indicate numerous reports of bluetooth connectivity problems with the iphone 4...
Very interesting... At the very least we can safely say there is a know issue with bluetooth on iphone 4
An alarming number of people complain of the same issues that I'm having and have described earlier in this thread...

It does look to be a problem. I've not used Bluetooth enough to have seen an issue, bit clearly you aren't alone.

I have a Jeep with the uConnect Bluetooth system and up until the iPhone 4, there were various issues (some Apple, some Chrysler) but the latest issue is when I am using the uConnect system with my iPhone and it just crackles and drops the BT connection... I can still hear the conversation in the phone speaker, so it has to be an Apple BT problem. I also think that it has to be an Apple BT problem because this symptom is unique to the iPhone 4 and no previous versions of the iPhone using the same uConnect system.

John, it looks like this is a problem that many people are having and seems to point to a problem in the iPhone 4, since people reported no problems with their prior iPhones, even running iOS 4. Not good for a quick fix.
