• Apple rejects apps that access UDIDs

Apple started to reject apps that access users unique device identifier (UDID), some developers report.

The move is viewed as Apple’s reaction on privacy concerns regarding its use which has already prompted government interest. Apple did warn developers it was going to phase out access to these identifiers when they deprecated the UDID in iOS 5 back in August of last year.

There are reports that two of Apple’s review team started “blanket rejections of apps that use UDIDs”, and from tomorrow four more teams will issue rejections until all ten review teams reject apps that that are using UDIDs.

iOS devs now face the problem of finding alternatives to replace the UDID functionality.
