    speed of the processor

I tested the processor of the 7135 with Benchmark 2.0 from www.quartus.net and found my unit running at 187% of a palm IIIe. I was surprised that it was running this fast. Has anyone else had similar results?

    Thanks,

I got the same result here with the BenchMark program. A more up-to-date benchmarking program, in my opinion, is "Speedy". I get 33 MHz for CPU frequency (which is correct) and 165 in "Relative Timing" mode in comparison with the other models in the program.

I get different results. It may be because of the version of Speedy that I have or what I have loaded on the unit.

    Version 2.1
    Relative Timing - 142%
    28 MHZ

Could be because I used Speedy v2.4 for my tests.

    My results were purely visual.
I had a Treo 300, which is also Dragonball 33.

I could visibly see games running faster. How is this possible?
I would think it would be slower because of colors (Treo had 4K of colors, 7135 is 64K).

If you press the bar results on Speedy it give you more detailed results:

Calc Test: 3.25 sec (~31 MHz)
Mem Test: 3.13 sec (~32 MHz)
Graph Test:: 4.16 sec (~24 MHz)
    Total: 10.54 sec (~28 MHz) 142% / Palm Vx

I updated my version of Speedy to 2.5 (from v2.4). It shows:

    Frequency: 33 MHz
    Relative: 165%

    Detail shows:
Calc Test: 3.26 sec (~31 MHz)
Mem Test: 1.64 sec (~61 MHz)
Graph Test:: 4.17 sec (~24 MHz)
    Total: 9.07 sec (~33 MHz) 165% / Palm Vx

So, it shows pretty much the same results I got before.

Hacks I have installed are (X-Master):
    Keyboard
    ScrollHack (for AvantGo)
    MiddleCapsHack

None of the above should affect system speed. I am not running any overclocking utilities.

The other system hacky thing I have loaded is QuickBits v1.1. That may be having the good effect on my 7135.

Michael Rye: It must be QuickBits that is boosting the system. I've run it in the past but have not installed it on my 7135. Have you had any locking problems?

I just loaded Quickbits and in the past with the other OVERCLOCKING apps my phone side would not function properly. But I have Quickbits running and the phone is taking calls, switching between palm and phone w/ no issues and matter of fact I can now dial the keypad QUICKLY without the palm falling behind!

if anyone else is interested lets get this program loaded into our 7135's and see how it performs on different configurations and lets keep each other posted on what we find and maybe this will be the program we can use to ENHANCE some of the capabilities of the 7135! Good luck and I will keep you guys posted with anything I find.

No, I have not had any problems at all with QuickBits loaded. It works great. Though it does not speed up my keypad like it does with babacksh's phone.

Michael Rye: I installed Quickbits on my 7135 this morning and now have the same results that you stated -

Calc Test: 3.26 sec (~31 MHz)
Mem Test: 1.64 sec (~61 MHz)
Graph Test:: 4.17 sec (~24 MHz)
    Total: 9.07 sec (~33 MHz) 165% / Palm Vx

    So the difference was Quickbits.

Well, that's good to know. Have you noticed any performance improvements in the display and/or dialing the phone???

I have noticed that the display is somewhat faster but only marginally so. I have not noticed any degradation using the phone or any speed difference when dialing.

I'm going to let it run for a while and I will let you know if there are any changes.
