My first real glitch with the phone (FAX tone)

OK now that I have the net up, blue tooth etc. all working great I tried to use the phone normall.

I had data up, dormaint and was in alength call and all of sudden I hear a Modem !!!

Hang up, call back and all is fine.

Then went to make a call later and it would not call.
Your number is dialed incorrectly it kept saying.

So I soft reset and all was fine.

Not sure if an AIM message came in or my cheek bumped the phone and initaited something.

Overall way more stable than the hp6315. But not with out a few bumps.

    Still learning.

could have ben anything... a bad call, dropped cell, program interference...

if you can recreate the environment you had this in that would help.

also doing a cold reset (last resort obviously) and using the phone as it was out of the box would answer questions also...

I received a call this morning, and when I answered, I got a fax tone instead of the person. I hung up, and in a minute the phone rang again and all was fine.

Let's try to track the state everyone was in to see if we can correlate it.

Did you have a data connection up? Yes

Did you have software up that could asynchronously send data? No

Did you have software up that could asynchronously receive data? Yes.

If Yes, What apps. AIM 2002 version.

I don't think I had any data session active... or I wouldn't have been receiving a call. I know that Agile Communicator was on, but offline... so it wasn't sending anything. I also don't think I had Bluetooth on.

my meaning is that even though your data session waa not active, it was dormant... that phase coudl have caused the error in the phone calls.

perhaps if you guys disabled the vision connection for a while and test it that way (yeah whos gonna do that though.. )

OK it glitched again on me. No Modem pitch sound this time. But the phone could not make calls. Had just finished a call and could not make another. Had 4 bars. First it did nothing, then tried again and it said not dialed correctly.

Same conditions. AIM, Dormant connection but could have gone attempted at going active recieving during call.

So I'm gonna leave the line dormant and keep AIM off for the moment. Just to narrow it down.

To get out of this mode I did not have to soft reset. I just toggled flight mode and it was back to normal.

    The Dreaded Sound

Well let me start out by saying that I FINALLY figured out why Outlook wasn't autofetching. It was not fetching mail on all accounts because it only fetches the one that it is on. Ok, to explain it better, when you open up accounts, the one that the dot is on. Anyway, this really is a bummer. When I had Snappermail with POS it would fetch all accounts. I am also not sure, but think Outlook has to be running (minimized)....but I could be wrong.

So what does this have to do with the "dreaded sound"? Well, for those that don't know of what I a referring, the dreaded sound is the BEEP that some of us have heard while in mid-conversation. It sounds almost like a fax machine.

I think I might know what is causing this. OUTLOOK- I think that Outlook doesn't know if you're on the phone when it wants to perform the autofetch and therefore tries to connect to the internet to grab your mail.....this gives you the fax sound and thus drops your current call.

Hopefully I am right. If I am it is both a simple and a difficult task.

Simple- at least it was for POS developers, to fix the software.

Difficult- MS to get off their collective buttocks and fix it.

What do you think....am I right on this one?

I think the dreaded sound is bugs in the network drivers. The apps should be immune to knowing if the phone is in voice mode or not. It should wait or return an error. Instead it tries to transmit and should not.

MY wife tried to call me and got the dreaded sound once too.

They need to fix this fast.

We should all put in a complaint so that it gets fixed.

Yes, everyone should complain about that so it gets fixed. Hopefully all these bugs will be worked out by the time the 6600 comes out.

But yeah, everyone should complain about it. If nobody complains, they won't know it's a problem so it will never get fixed.

OK just got off the phone with tech support and he updated my PRL.

Some of you might know what this is but I didn't, and just in case there are others like me...here's the scoop.

The PRL is a "Preferred Roaming List". This is a list that is placed in your account that tracks signal towers. These are the preferred towers where you travel....or something like that (I am beginning to confuse myself....which btw is fairly easy to do).

Anyway, he said that my PRL was over a year old and that even though I had switched to a new phone, my old PRL remained. He said that the beep might be a dropped signal or something.

Personally I don't think this is the answer, but we'll see. It's noted in my account so if it happens again we can press forward. He also said that he didn't see any other problems listed for this phone.....sooooooooo...,

    get calling!

I finally called in for my complaint

    Ticket # 9051628-041118

At first he wanted me to bring it to a store so they can run diagnostics on it. Yeah right, they won't even know what it is.

So I convinced him to take it further. He said an "IT" specialist will contact vender. We'll see but that's what I wanted to hear.

Also regarding PRL he said mine was not set at all and had a "Pending Update" for it.

Dial *2 (1 for english) and it announced it had an update and downloaded it.

PRL Version went up 1 (seen in Device Information applet). The PRL Version he said is for your number of updates. If I had him do it again it would be 10026.
