Software? Please say Media Player 10

What software came with the 6601? I was reading different post on other website and head different things. I read that it comes with media play 10 on like 4 sites. Is this true? Any software for avi file or photo formats?

Its Windows Mobile 2003 SE, so all the info on Microsoft applies:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...e/default.mspx

(Note the comments on second edition).

As for media player, it comes with Media Player 9, several jpeg viewing programs. (Album, and 'Pictures'? Don't know, never used them).

There's a WModem, for emulating a modem to a bluetooth laptop... and several backup tools.

Sprint includes Express PageOne demo, and AudiablePlayer demos. Beyond that, you can install all the same PDA stuff you would from any other place on the web.

Honestly, the included software shouldn't be the biggest concern.. its just like any other PocketPC pda in my opinion. The biggest things are probably just the data acceess (which I give thumbs up), and phone signal quality (stellar in many regards).

    Adobe Reader
    AI Roboform
    BetaPlayer
    Egress (RSS)
    GetIt FTP

    from Howard Forums

I am such a newbie to all of this, I have never owned a PDA and my Nokia is ancient. I am anxious to get the PPC-6600, and have been devouring everything everyone has written about additional software. I was wondering if PPC-6601 users could comment on the software mentioned in a HoFo PPC thread at http://www.howardforums.com/forumdis...hp?forumid=181

I found a great little utility which allows signatures on your ActiveSync outgoing PPC mail, but more so, allows you to add recepients to your outgoing POP account e-mails. In other words, you can BCC yourself on any of your outgoing e-mails, which are sent from your PPC. The resident PPC mail app does not allow BCC, and you can not sync your SENT box with your laptop. So you do not have copies of sent e-mails, anywhere except for your PPC.

    Furthermore, it's FREE ....

    http://www.syncdata.it/free_downloads.html

    Hope it Helps !!!

    ---------------------

Excellent phone skin chooser and various skins that are free:

    http://sourceforge.net/project/show...ckage_id=102650

Using it on the Pda2k with no problems.

    -------------------

For the individual ring tone solution I purchased a $6.99 app called RingToneX on www.pocketgear.com and it does the trick.

    -----------------

Another "must have" app is RegKing:

    http://www.doctorce.com/RegKing.htm#Current_Hacks

RegKing enables Pocket IE to report as IE 6.0. By default PIE reports as IE 4.01 which is not sufficient to get onto most bank's and brokerage house's web sites. Once installed, I can now easily access my bank's website to conduct my on-line banking from my Pda2k (or any PPC device).

Reg King contains 40+ different hacks and it is free thanks to Chris De Herrera.

    ------------

I am sorry for not crediting the original suppliers of the afore-mentioned information, I gleaned it from a thread at http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...hreadid=274092

Phew! Long post, good info, thanks!

    1) MortButtons

Makes every hardware button bring up a menu from which you can choose up to 12 different programs to run. Like have 12 different choice for each button. Its free, btw...

    2) AI Roboform

Encrypted password and note keeper. Very secure, requires password access. I keep my Credit card info in it. Syncs with Windows XP, too..

    3) MortSaver

Locks the keys and screen without turning off device. Good for playing mp3s with device in pocket. Also free.

    4) VeriChat

Instant messager that DOESNT require a constant vision connection to receive message and therefore doesn't drain the battery...

Roboform is really great, especially that it sync's with the desktop version.

I suspect he's talking about the service agreement with Sprint or some such. You can only renew every so many months. (18 if memory serves)

    Re: Thread hijacking...

Three Software Must Haves for the 660x (which please note this is much less than my Software Must Have list for my Treo). I must also be honest and say that these have many tools, tricks, and utilities that I feel should have been already included in a MS OS, i.e. file drag and drop or option to have close button actually close a program:

Must Have: VOICE COMMAND: ABSOLUTELY A MUST!!!! There is no doubt the $30 is more than worth it. There is no voice training. You do not have to assign a voice command for each contact or software program. The program reads the names and listens for you to say it. It is ready and accurate right out of the box.

You just click the assigned button say "Call <Name> on mobile" and it calls their cell phone. You can even say "Launch <Program Name>" and it will launch it for you....no nav through menus or folders to find it.

Must Have: SPB POCKET PLUS: This is both a start page enhancement along with several OS addons

The Start Page. Ever since I installed this, I don't think I have gone into Programs or Settings to find a program yet. This makes every program on your entire handhald available on your start page.

    OS Enhancements.
<> Close Button. You can actually have the program close with the close button.
<> Pocket IE. This adds the following to Pocket Internet Explorer:
Open Link in a new Window
    <> Page save ability.
    <> Picture save ability
    <> Copy link to clipboard
<> Taskbar Battery Indicator. Nice and really small along the top of the unit.
<> File Explore. This adds several tools to File Explorer (which if you Resco makes this a mute point):
<> Program Manager. You can have a program manager, or least switch between running programs, added to the context menu.

Must Have: RESCO EXPLORER 2003. All I can say is that this really does give you just about every tool you have come to expect from a file explorer. Nicely laid out and very easy to use. Supports file drag and drop.

Heck I have upgraded twice in the last 10 months with the $150 rebate and I am still eligible!!!!

All I did was ask the guy selling the phone to me if I could have the $150 as an instant rebate instead of having to mail it in. They both did it, first guy was from Sprint call center when I ordered my Treo 600 and the second was in a Sprint store when I bought my PPC-6601.

    Lesson in life,

It never (.....or rarely) hurts to ask.

I have read elsewhere of some folks having some problems with Pocket Plus and ThuderHawk on the 6601. Is there anyone for whom this is causing a need for more soft resets? One BIG reason I am really looking at the 6600 over the iPaq is the processor is twice as fast and does not need as many soft resets.

I have not used X-Pro, but there is also an X-Lite application that is free. Another option to look at is SKYPE. I use SKYPE when I travel and it is AMAZING. No experience with the other IP based telephone services.
