    Extended Battery

I remember reading somewhere that there was going to be an extended battery (2000ma or higher). Has anyone seen anything on this or am I just imagining things?

    Thanks!

I got an email fromhtc that there is no plans for an extended battery.

it will have to come from a 3rd party.

Both the Verizon XV6600's cradle and charger cords have tags on them that say:

    Charging Information:
Typical charge time for a full charge
    Standard Batteries: approximately 4 hours
    Extended Batteries: approximately 4 hours

Two very intersting things about this...
First, they indicate that there is/will be an extended battery!
Second, very odd that the charge times are the same!

Do you think that by 'extended battery', they really mean 'second battery', ie. the second battery that you can charge at the same time as the battery on the phone...

Incidentally, there is no such tag on my Sprint PPC-6601....

these "notes" were made weeks maybe months before initial release and final products. they could have planned to release a battery for this phone but changed horses mid stream...

i do know verizon folks can get a second battery for 50% off...

    better than nothing....

I'd hate to start a bad rumor, but maybe, just maybe, the big fat battery was planned but made the internal antenna not perform up to spec. Anyone? Bueller?

How does battery switching on the fly work?

My last device an IPAQ 4355 had a back up battery that was user replaceable, but the main battery wasn't so when it went down you were out of luck no matter how many back ups you had.

The 6600 is probably a lot like the i700. There's a lithium polymer internal battery that keeps the memory hot for 20 minutes while you do a battery swap.

Still, daily backups with Sprite Backup are a very, very, good thing. The only cranky bit is I do mine at 4am and I have it set to auto-soft-reset. Every morning at 4:18am, "Voice Command is Ready" fills the bedroom air.

LOL. How annoying. Why dont you set it for 6am so at 6:18, you get to hear that Voice Command is ready?

I would agree with you if you were right, but the Palm OS is crap.

Thanks Saint, here's the whole link. I think the price is pretty reasonable too, considering the G1000's OEM battery never got cheaper than $69.99.

How did you configure it to do an auto soft reset at a certain time? Is this a feature of Sprite Backup?

i was able to order the spare battery with the phone. they have the accessories for the phone on the b2b website. i had wondered about swapping batteries on the fly also but it turns out the phone has an internal battery and the phone seems to shut down features when the battery reaches a certain threshold. i've had a few instances of my xda wiping out due to a drained battery. i'm hoping this new setup helps prevent that from happening.

    Spare batt & cradle...

When I got my spare batt (from vzw), I plugged it in to the 2nd batt slot on the cradle. Didn't start charging. But don't have the pwr adapter connected to the cradle. So I turned the 6600 off & replaced the old batt w/the newly rcvd one (checked to ensure the internal batt was charged up first). Then plugged the 6600 into it's cradle slot & it started charging. So what do I learn?
    - Ensure the internal batt is charged up, then can turn the 6600 off & swap batts w/no problem.
    - My USB hub is powered so the 6600 recharges while it's plugged in to the cradle, but the 2nd batt only charged if the pwr adapter is plugged in.

    or $53.25 on tessco.com!

Its a pity there is no extended battery coming from HTC. Hopefully a 3rd party manufacturer will step in to fill the void. It doesnt look to be too difficult to just make a battery using the same interface and connecter, just with more cells.

Actually, I'm not worried about it...

With this device being used by so many carriers, to me, it's simply a matter of a little time before someone gets a clue & makes this battery (maybe even thru HTC OEMing thru someone which is, fwiw, what I'd do if I were them).
