    Question Active Sync Not Installing

    Please help,

Whenever I install a version of Active Sync higher than 3.5 I get the following message..

"Setup could not copy the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Local Settings\Temp\IXP000.TMP\core\inf\wceusbsh.cat' (copy error -1). Restart your desktop computer and run Setup again."

I would use 3.5, but my phone needs a higher version. I just paid a lot of money for this phone, and need to be able to sync it. Any help would be great!

Also, is anyone else surprised that the PPC 660 doesn't have voice dial.

    Thanks!

    Start Menu ---> Run Command
    command: "%TEMP%" without the quotes.

Yes, I know it doesn't look like a command.

This should open up an explorer window set to Windows' temporary working directory.

If it exists, check for existing folders files IXP*** and delete them. It's possible one or more of them are locked/read only and the new install can't replace it.

If the directory does not exist, create it. (I suspect it will exist tho).

If you cannot delete the IXP000.TMP folder, rename it to something else.

Post your results... we are here to help.

If you can't delete or rename the file you might have to go to safe mode. (Press F8 right after your bios screen on boot)

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam

Then try to delete the file.

We are assuming the file is there. Is the file there? If not you might have gotten a corrupted download.

    Do you have this size?

    Size 3.77 MB (3,963,304 bytes)
Size on disk 3.78 MB (3,964,928 bytes)

I would also make sure all previous activesyncs were uninstalled before trying to re-install(just in case)

okay, the folder was not there, but I have created it. I have also uninstalled all previous versions. I will try to install...

I got the same error message.

okay, i will rename the folder i just created and try again.....

I got the same error message.

You know, when I place my mouse over that drive in the My Computer menu, it says it's only 261 MB.

    Please keep helping me....

Oh wait.. I seem to remember something like this once.

Yes, it could be you don't have enough free space. Try clearing stuff up so you have a gigabyte free... and also re-download MSASYNC.EXE... and see if that works.

okay, i cleared more space, my system information says that i have 91.37 MB free. Instead of using the disk, I downloaded the program from the Microsoft website and still got the same error message at 91%.

Clear more space. Not 91MB, 500MB.

If you are having trouble cleaning up space, try doing this on your pc (I am assuming XP) Start Menu-> Run -> cleanmgr.exe

That should compress files and remove temp files you don't need.

    Unplug your PDA

Unplug the USB Connection of your PDA. This file cannot be copied as long as the USB connection for your cradle is active. (Remember how when you first got your PDA it told you to install active sync BEFORE you connected the PDA.)
