PDA not going to sleep on external power

Anyone noticed with the new ROM or on the PPC-6600 factory ROM the PDA never goes to sleep when on external power.

It's not a big deal, just nagging me.

It seems to ignore the setting in the power management.

The screen backlightgoes out but you can see the PDA is still on.

It will shutoff with the power button.

Mine's happily asleep in the cradle... so I would say ... check your software.

My PPC-6600 never goes to sleep in the cradle. In a few days I should have a travel charger and I'll see if it goes to sleep then.

It won't sleep if it's active sync'd to a computer. That is by design.

    I'm talking about just power.

Thanks for clarifying that - this is my first PPC device, goodbye Palm!

When my travel charger shows up I'll let you know what happens.

mswlogo, I would check the obvious first. Is the box checked for turning off device after XX minutes on external power? You know

    Settings>system>power>advanced

Edit: I should start reading posts from now on before I answer.
If it does not respond to a setting---> soft reset fixes just about anything

I found the cause of this.

I have a "travel kit" that came with the Fortuna GPS.

I have a sync cable which is an HTC cable that I got from pdaphonehome.com.

The Travel kit includes an AC USB 5v source and a DC USB 5v Source. So I can plug the sync cable in the PC, the wall or the Car.

So when I travel, I just take the sync cable and AC USB source.

When using that combo, the PDA will not sleep.

But when in the cradle with DC hooked up (without PC USB connected) it will sleep.

If in cradle with PC Connected and PC on, I know it will not sleep because active sync will be up and you don't want it to sleep.
I have not tested Cradle connected to PC but PC off, I suspect it will be the same as unplugged from PC and sleep.

    Interesting, ain't it.

I have an XDA-II cable from Expansys.

    Originally it worked fine.

Now it works ok for charging, but the USB data part fails -- it says "Unknown USB device."

It's not software, because if the cable is jiggled correctly it works just fine. If left alone, it shows up as that unknown device.

    It sleeps in any case.

    Hope that helps.

I have no complaint the way it's working. I believe it's working correctly and now I undestand why. Typically when hooked to USB you want it to stay on, because it' usually hooked to a PC with active sync up. If it's power only through dongle you want it to sleep. The travel kit I have is emulating a USB socket so it's staying on because it thinks it's hooked to a computer that's on.
