which is worse Blazer or PIE?

tonight I was trying out a 6601 at the store. I tried to run video news at news.yahoo.com and videos don't seem to play on either browser. I also tried to load ecost.com it loaded ok on blazer but not completly on PIE.

PIE is much better than Blazer. Add PIEplus, and gets even better.

Neither site is intended for PDA phones. But I loaded them anyway. ecost loads just fine. As for video clips on yahoo news, they don't seem to play well with WM 9.0. That is a media player issue, not a browser issue. If yo install Realplayer mobile, they load fine.

Tell me about this PIEPlus... I'm looking to add java support to the PIE browser - will this do so?

Also, someone mentioned awhile ago a new mobile browser from Mozilla (makers of Firefox) that was in the works. I poked around the Mozilla site yesterday and could not find any mention of such a project. Anyone have any additional info/links to this?

also are there some setting for picture quality on the 6600 that you set? i noticed that my treo pic quality seems sharper and clearer, but i think the resollution or display shouldnt be that much diffrnt?

The Mozilla project is called "minimo".
It's in very early stages so I wouldn't suggest installing it unless you want to help test.

Lee, I don't think PIEplus adds java. I tried the full DSLreports site, which requires downloading a java applet, but it didn't work.

You can check out PIEplus free trial at Pocketgear.com

    http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=10692

    Feature List
Optimize the web contents to fit for PIE
    Open multiple PIE windows
    Fullscreen mode
    Hardware button mapping
Navigate with D-Pad or Jog Dial
    Extended context menu
Identify PIE as IE5.5 or IE6.0
    Set default charset
    Enable/disable script and script warning
    Enable/disable ClearType

    ran1354,

I'm doing some changes to my PPC, deleting many apps, and at the current time I'm having a hard time re-downloading realplayer mobile. Their web site has a bug that keeps returning me to the country of origin when I try to download it. I'll contact Realnetworks about this, and see what happens.

Tahnks, Tony, but if it doesn't add Java support, I'll just wait awhile and see what becomes of this MiniMo project. I also read earlier that the IPAQ 3800 series came w/ a CD that had a PPC Java runtime on it. I'll have to dig my old disk out and see what that was all about...

I never did like video on handhelds, whether it is the PPC or the Treo. That's why I don't normally stream video. So, I thought the quality of the yahoo news video was crappy, IMO, when I tried it once.

This could be simply my subjective preferential opinion, of course.

NetFront has sub-par Java support. I'll have to try PIEplus.

noiticed a comparison in maximum pc . they liked the 6600 better than the treo due to its greater versatility. they didnt comment
on the display qualtiy or the browsing experience.

You guys should check out SBPocket Plus. It adds most of the features of PIE Plus (minus java) , but does a whole lot more for your system for only an extra 5 bucks

TonyH: playing the video streams at Yahoo! News is one of the things I’ve been trying to do without success, thus far. I took your suggestion above and downloaded RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.0, but couldn’t seem to get the videos at Yahoo! News to play. I then downloaded the “new” version 1.1, but no luck there either. Any “how to” suggestions are appreciated. Please feel free to explain things to me like I'm a 6 year old

    TIA,
    MA

I just got pie plus and it is cool. I got it because I wanted to access Paul Harvey's site to get the audio stream for his news report. PIE by itself would not do it, but PIE plus will. But I do notice that it will not parse the video URLs properly. Haven't played with it enough to discern why. I will experiment and see what I can find.

One feature that PIE needs (maybe an addition to PIE PLUS....developers listening?) is the ability to click and save images from web pages.
