    Differences between XV6600WOC and XV6600 (CAM)

    I'm calling the Camera version CAM for convenience. VZW designates it as simply "XV6600".

    3 More CAB files are loaded on the CAM version:
    CAB: \Extended_ROM\CW_EnableMMS.sa.CAB
    CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS.cab
    CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS_Camera.CAB

    CW_Enable_MMS inserts registry setting
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IA Style\IACWPlugin\MMS Composer]
    "Filter"=dword:000006c7
    "EnableMultiple"=dword:00000000
    "Path"="\Windows\tmail.exe"
    "CommandName"="(@.@) Send via MMS"
    "RCStringID"=dword:0000561d
    "RCNameDLL"="\Windows\album_res.dll"
    "EnableUseRCName"=dword:00000001
    "ActionID"=dword:00000001
    "CmdParam"="-service "MMS" -attach"

    MMS.cab inserts a whole bunch of files and a bunch of registry entries under
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\

    Finally MMS_Camera gives us camera.exe and the following registry settings:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IA Style\IPC\Camera]
    "Path"="\Windows\Camera.exe"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IA Style\IPC\Album]
    "Path"="\Windows\Album.exe"

    Having run these (remember, I restored an XV6600WOC backup), I now have an MMS account.

    somewhat off topic, has anyone been able to swap out their xv6600WOC with the camera version through verizon without having to buy the camera version outright?

    Hey E, My WOC has camera.exe in the windows directory also. When you try to run it, you get a message that says, "Failed to initialize camera. Please reset the hardware. 36001:100:2"

    There's even a camera.htm which is tells you how to use the camera.

    Heh...

    P.S. I searched and found!
    Phone: Treo 700w
    History: XV6600 -> Treo 700w -> XV6800 -> Treo 700w again.

    Ehud-

    I'm an idiot. When I first was reading this, I thought you had a Sprint phone...I guess I just assumed that, so I skimmed some of this apparently .

    Anyways, I did the MMS_camera .cab option on the Sprint 6600 and now my camera is as useless as xbackup.

    What can I do?

    Thanks,

    What use is the MMS account? Seems everything I have read re: the VX6600 says that picture mail via MMS doesn't seem to work.

    Have I missed something?

    Hey, maybe you guys can help me out with a problem. I have a PPC 6700 for Sprint, and I suddenly started getting a "Failed to initialize camera: 36001:100:1" error message. I hadn't been messing with that section of the registry at all. It started right around the time I installed NetFront, but I don't see how that could have done it. Any ideas? What can I try? Do I need to do a hard reset? Thanks!

    I did. I had a problem with my non camera version. The phone was a little beat up, some buttons stopped responding and earpiece was dead. When I took it in the sticker that covers the camera/flash opening was missing. I guess the rep assumed it was a camera version due to the openings or they only had camera versions in stock to replace it with.

    You may be in luck. I have had great success in finding the the SX66 (GSM version of the VX6600) which does not have a built in camera does have the camera connector on the board.

    I actually buy 6600s off ebay that are for parts or repair (around $50) and remove the camera unit, place it in the SX66 units I also buy on ebay ($70-100) and resell the modified SX66 for $299.99.

    It takes some doing as I must modify the area on the VX6600 back cover that has the SIM slot to conform to the SX66 SIM location. But with cooked ROMware I have no problems getting them to work just fine.

    Your solution might be a similar one, if the WOC has provisions for the camera on the borad. But then again, if your buying a 6600 off ebay with a cracked or damaged screen lets say for 50 bucks, you just might as well swap out the entire board I guess.

    Hope that helps!
