    Best free games for PocketPC?

On my Palm, I had several free games that I loved:

    yahtChallenge
    Lemmings Demo
    Niggle (Scrabble)
    Lode Runner
    Rally 1000 (Mille Bornes)
    Solar Wars (Space Trading game)

The problem with Pocket PC is that there seem to be Handmark $20 versions of Scrabble and Yahtzee, but all the others have no AI computer player.

So, since I don't feel like paying $100 on games for this thing, what are some of the best free games on Pocket PC?

Anyone? I won't bump this again if nobody answers.

And if there is a FAQ somewhere that I am missing for this info, please point me but I can't find it.

    Thanks again.

Try Astraware.com - I don't know how much freeware they have, but even the demos are great. I've loaded up some of their better ones, such as Mummy Maze and Candy Train, which I originally put on my PPC for the kids, but I end up playing it all the time.

Yahtzee - check the freeware sites. I found but have not tried this:

Rally 1000 is a cool Palm freebie and I haven't found a replacement.

I posted a collection of links gathered from around forums and there is a section of Free PPC Software sites. I would bet you could find some there:

Every time I download something for the Audiovox 6600 it says "not a true pocket pc device" so it wont install any of the games or anything. Any directions on how to download applications? thanks!

    1. Download to your desktop

    2. Do one of these things depending on what you've downloaded:

Zip file - unzip it to a temporary directory (check out) and read any "readme" files. You'll probably have to run the executable that was extracted while your device is connected via ActiveSync.

EXE file - run it from the desktop. You should have your 6600 connected to your desktop with ActiveSync and just follow the instructions after you run the installation file. If you get an error about it not being a valid executable for your desktop, copy it to your device using ActiveSync/Explore and run it from there.

CAB file - copy the cab file to your device using ActiveSync/Explore, bring up File Explorer on the device and click on it.

    HTH.

Thank you kindly, I was doing it wrong. I was downloading it to my memory card and then executing it from the device. I will try it your way. Thank you again.

Very cool looking version (love Farkle/Bupkis also), but neither of these have an AI (computer player).

I found Crosswords. The interface is much better than the Handmark Scrabble version. It has no skill levels so it plays a perfect game every time. Still, I'm pretty good at Scrabble, so I actually beat it the first time.

There's a lot of great stuff at pocketpcfreewares.com. Thanks for the links, Hobbes, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Downloaded DoomCE and it works like a charm.

Also you may want to look at the emulation for Genesis/SNES and NES. If you have any of the physical games you can legally own the roms (the hard part is finding the roms to download). They both work fine on my xv6600, and even have a cool little stylus area where you can use a virtual control pad

The SNES emulation is slow with certain games, but if you turn off the sound it works smooth

Anyone know if there is a bluetooth/infra red gamepad available?

Ive been looking but cant find anything yet

    Hobbes,

I noticed that betaplayer was not in your multimedia list. For shame.

How's Iguidance? The reason I went with TomTom was for the 3D view but now I see IGuidance has the same option as well. (I also can't find my TomTom CDs so this might just be the right timing...).

Has you used to two, in order to compare?

I know I have to update that Software list. There is a lot of new software that I want to put on there....and I will as soon work calms down a little. Which since this week was probably the biggest week of the year for us, it should fairly soon.

I have never used Tom Tom...just too expensive. I must say that I love Iguidance. Easy to use, easy to enter in addresses, with very....very...very few exceptions, it is dead on. If you really know the area, it may not be the absolute fastest way, but it do a lot of travelling and it gets me there everytime. I love it when it shows me exactly what time I should be arriving as well, especially when I am running late.
