Unhappy xv6600 ppc6600 on verizon got it working... but

i bought camera version of the xv6600 on ebay, which turned out to be a south cellular ppc6600. the seller claimed, it would work so i tried it and it did. it connects to internet, camera works... BUT... evdo doesn't connect. It only connects 1xrtt. Any idea's if I can update it somehow, or flash it. Or is there a setting. Please help. I hate to file a complaint, because this guy swears you can do it. He just doesn't know how.

    thanks in advanced...

p.s. yes I am already paying 45/month for evdo service.

I am assuming you are in a EVDO area. Even if you are in an EVDO city you might still not get EVDO. Not all cells in all the cities have been converted. Its very good in LA. Even so I flip between EVDO and 1X just sitting in my house.

    Atlanta, GA
    Austin, TX
    Baltimore, MD
    Boston, MA
    Chicago, IL
    Cincinnati, OH
    Columbus, OH
    Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
    Dayton, OH
    Hartford, CT
    Houston, TX
    Jacksonville, FL
    Kansas City, MO
    Las Vegas, NV
    Los Angeles, CA
    Madison, WI
    Miami/Fort Lauderdale, FL Milwaukee, WI
    New Haven, CT
    New Orleans, LA
    New York, NY
    Newark, NJ
    Orlando, FL
    Philadelphia, PA
    Phoenix, AZ
    Pittsburgh, PA
    Providence, RI
    San Diego, CA
    St. Petersburg/West Palm Beach, FL
    Tampa, FL
    Washington, DC

First try updating the PRLs with *22899.

    If that doesn't work -
    edit the modem. Start->settings->connections tab->connections

    Verizon - manage existing connections
    You should see #777
    Select edit
Select next till you get to username and password.
    username <phone number>@vzw3g.com
    password vzw

If that doesn't help let us know.

Sorry I edited the post. I am typing this to bump. I understand that connections are setup but notice that the username should be
    your phone number@vzw3g.com

with the 3g being the important part.

If you're connecting at 1xRTT then your login credentials are correct.

It's ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that your account on vzw doesn't have the "allow EV bit" set. A call to the data support should clear that up. It would show the symptoms you are reporting.

There is a very very slim possibility that the SPRINT PPC-6600 is not compatible with VZW's EVDO, but you're the test case for that theory.

I'm hoping it turns out to be a VZW account setting issue. Such has happened lots before.

Not so much that as you need an EVDO PRL to see the EVDO towers. What's your PRL version?

The version I have is 50283. when dialing ##778-send, I have twice as many options as a normal xv6600. I'm wondering if there is something else I need to enable evdo...

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose to buy from Ebay for that much when you could have gotten an XV6600 w/ camera from VRZ for $669 no contract? $449 w/ 2yr & $599 w/ 1 yr.

Oh yeah, i noticed that with the wifey's 6600 also. Sitting at home the service switches from EV to 1X.... And I'm about 10 miles from Manhattan (NYC).

Just switched the non camera version for the camera version yesterday. I was within the 14 day grace period. I'm sorry you got burnt by the e-bay seller. Total cost $449

Wish I could have bought it for $449. In Northern Virginia they charge $549 with a 2 year contract!
