Just did this with success last night in order to use .mp4's and .mov's in Windows Movie Maker. Use the tutorial found here:

    http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t232659.html

With TMPGEnc, you'll simply drag and drop the .mp4 onto TMPGEnc which will extract the Audio from the video. You'll then run it again to slap it back together as a .mpeg or .avi.

I installed the free mpegable DS decoder and now I can play those MP4s through Windows Media Player. It's just the decoder - not the coder, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

I just tested my videos in WMP 10 and all is good.

    You can get it here:

PS - the registry hack for recording unlimited MP4 file size rocks! This forum is really loaded with info!

http://mp4cam2avi.sourceforge.net/ will also work, although I can't get it to convert with sound

Anyone know of a command line way to do this with sound?

Hrm... I installed it and it just gives me a configuration program. I can't find any useful documentation on the sourceforge homepage for this project.

Am I suppose to use it with another tool too actually do the conversion? Thanks

Do you really want to convert it? If you just download and install ffdshow you don't need to convert it--it will play in Windows Media Player as-is.
