No sound, except when ringing ???

OK, so no I haven't dropped my phone or anything crazy like that. All I know is that yesturday my phone stopped making sounds (ie keypresses, music, talking on the phone) out of the speaker... I can hear everything fine if I put a headset on though. Oh and the kicker is the phone still rings...

I did 2 hard resets but that didn't change anything...

ideas? help? Am I crazier than normal?

Check your volume levels for both phone and pocket pc. DO so once when not running the phone program, and once when you are.

Tried both, to no avail. And all is right with a headset. Also, when trying to activate speakerphone (pressing and holding the phone button) nothing happens. I just don't understand how the phone will ring but nothing else

Well it's down to one of two things:
    1. Some really weird corruption in the registry or the sound DLL. (Likely)
    2. Hardware problem and we now find out the ringer is a separate speaker (unlikely).

    Backup
    Hard reset
    Test speaker
    Report back
If it doesn't work, get new phone
If it does work, restore contacts, tasks, calendar, and nothing else. Reset all settings by hand and reinstall all apps by hand.

This was 3rd hard reset, and still no sound except ringing. I have almost convinced myself that my phone is somehow in "ALWAYS HEADSET" mode.... but then again, how is it still ringing?

Anyway, when you say "get new phone", do you think Sprint will just give me a knew one after 2 months of having it? Or do you think I will have to file I claim on my equipment protection plan?

    Thanks for the help E

Oh absolutely. There are two reasons:
    1. Malfunctions are covered by the manufacturer's warranty (1 year) not the insurance.
    2. They'll have no trouble reproducing the problem.
    3. You won't have to pay a deductible.

I'd call SPRINT and see if they'll do a store-exchange if any stores near you have one, and if not if they'll FedEx you one. I have Verizon, and they do, and I expect SPRINT does likewise.
