Crazy idea, can wifi be added to the PPC6600?

Just was browsing thru the pictures at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=83808 which show an XDA taken apart, you can see where the wifi antenna is. Just reminded me of my old Sony laptop which did not have bluetooth, I was able to open it up and add a bluetooth module and install the bluetooth software meant for the factory equipped ones.

Anyhow, it looks like the wifi antenna is easy to put in, if we can obtain the hardware. Now the question is can we hack the XDA wifi software to the PPC6600?

I know it's a crazy question/topic, but might be interesting.

It would be nice to have wifi, but personally, with BT and PCS already on it, I really could care less for wifi and even more so if I had to open mine up to add it on. I rather wait for the next version. Still seems like a worthy hack to try if you've got the time and need.

It would be very helpful for roaming purposes. Also, I would love to be able to be able to turn my PDA into a virtual hot spot.

i would think the brainiacs at xda-developers would be better able to answer the question. it does sound pretty cool though.

The vast majority of those guys are GSM, and the ones who are CDMA are probably already on these boards.

Maybe one of the tech inclined on here could take a stab at it. Personally I would have no problem sacrificing my PPC for experimentation, but don't have the know how.

I don't think the antenna is the only thing missing, I'm actually pretty sure the entire Wifi hardware was replaced with the EVDO radio, basically the GSM units have standard radio and Wifi, and the CDMA units have standard radio and EVDO, I don't believe they had the space and/or FCC approval for CDMA, EVDO, and Wifi...
