Question PPC to FM Radio adapter - what are you using?

Search seems as of it is busted on the site for me, anyone else?

So I'm posting in the hopes someone recalls what part is needed to convert the ppc 6600 head phone jack to a regular jack that is connected to some sort of FM transceiver that will play in my car. Kind of like the Monster Cable iPod adapter. I would like to check out how good mp3's play off my PPC onto my FM radio in my car and see what other cool stuff I could do.

Thanks for the assist - hope they fix search soon!

    Perfect!

I'm also going to buy one of these:

    http://www.monstercable.com/mobile/m...Mobile%20Audio

and we'll see how it goes. I was just playing with my buddy iPod version and it sounds cool, but not cool enough to drop 80.00 for the monster cable and another $200-$400 for an iPod as well.

If you have a casette player in your car you'll get better sound using a casette adapter than any of the FM transmitters. I use the casette adapter with my iPod, my XM radio, and my PPC. - sheureka

I do, but its hidden behind a sliding face plate and would look kind of weak with the additional wires. The real solution here is to get RCA's to come out of my CD Changer, thru the trunk, back seats and then front seats, but that requires a lot of work and then you have to drop on the iPod to get the joy out of it.

But I do appreciate the input!

So I went to Radio Shack and low and behold, they had both the monster fm transmitter and the headphone converter to boot. Thing is I think this one at RS isn't going to cut it, as it sounds pretty MONO at this point. But it sounds great for hands free phone calls all over my car! I actually played a few MP3's and some of them sounded good, altho its no substitute for stereo sound.

I'm hoping this one here: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~un...updateunit.htm

Does a better job, since the RS one was only 3.00 and probably not meant to actually reproduce stereo sound. If it is better, then this rig will be a great addition to the ppc 6600.

More to come (as long as the site works!)

That RatShack adapter is a piece of junk. If you hold it at exactly the right spot you actually will get stereo - but if you move you PPC at all you lose it. The one for PPCTechs works great - I don't use it with an FM adapter, but I use it with a casette adapter and with my Sony earplugs. - sheureka

cassette decks are like 8-tracks in cars these days.. the best way is to have a in dash receiver that has a line input.. otherwise you can get a great FM X-miter from Irock. they have some nice units.

yeah, I'm kind of holding it in 1/2 way to get the stereo sound, but I just ordered the PPCTech's version. Guess that's why RS's costs 4.00 and the PPCTech's is $23.00 shipped. Oh well, at least I proved the concept to work good enough for me to go forward with it. I've also found the mp3's to sound pretty good. Guess it just depends on how well the mp3 was ripped.

So I got PPC Tech's adapter yesterday and I am pleased with what I've got working here. The PPC over the Monster FM transmitter works great as a speaker phone over your radio, while using it for MP3's is not the best, but it's an option for when you want to listen to some MP3's. Best part is that you're good to go with any other device you want to plug in to your car.

Thanks for all the input guys!

P.S. Search is still messed up on the site, right?

    Monster Cable

Monster Cable is the best cable company in the world. Their products are pricey because they offer a lifetime warranty. I'm not sure if the warranty applies to this item, but I play guitar in a band and I pay 3x the price for cables to Monster because when they become problematic (loose plugs are typical after thrashing them around a bit) I just take them back to Guitar Center and get a new one for free.

It really is a nice way to squeeze even more use out of your PPC. I mean, at the very least, you got yourself Voice Command activated Speaker Phone for your car. Not to mention everything else you can ask your PPC.

    Call Matt Smith Cell
    What's my next appointment
    Play Album Beastie Boys

Just imagine that over your car stereo. Everyone I've shown wigs out.

    Etc!

    Ok--

I have been using the PPCtech's adaptor and Soundfeeder for 2 weeks now. Let me just say this--it is AWESOME. In fact, it is so awesome, that I even went through the long and tiring process of converting 900MB of MP3's to 500MB of .WMA's--a little less quality (ok, maybe a lot less) but I have over 400 songs now on my SD card that I play in my car. Not to mention anywhere there is a FM radio, I have my Soundfeeder with me and plug it in.

    PROBLEMS:
1.) My first problem is that I get complaints of an Echo from people on the other end. At first, I would change stations (88.5 works best) to another, and it would be fine...for about 2 minutes, then an echo again. I called PPCTech's (not much help, although they said I could replace it for free...but I have a feeling I will still get an echo).

---Does anyone know how to remove the echo? I have searched and found no answer...and I have a feeling there isn't one...yet. (no update ROM's, etc.)

2.) The sucker EATS up batteries. Not to mention, if you accidently leave it on, BOOM--there goes your juice. Is it possible to hard wire it to the car?

    Thanks

That's why I bought the Monster one, it just plugs into your lighter and never uses batteries. People don't complain too much about an echo when I talk and if they do, they live with it when I tell them its my car phone.

I love the concept, but I'm going to go the next step and buy a RCA hook up that connects to my car stereo via the CD Changer and run a cable to my front seat. That will take away all FM static and then I will be able to play MP3's/speaker phone/etc.

Its just awesome using VC over the radio. She sounds so hot!

Perhaps this is a... silly question, but what do you do for a mic? The phone's speaker & mic are disabled when the headset jack is used.

I have my DVD on my CD changer side of my deck, but I can always split the RCA in... But correct me if I'm wrong, don't you have to change you station to the FMM to use it... doesn't do it auto right? Just like I would have to change my input from FM or CD to my DVD input source.

    Thanks,
    David

Whether the mike is defeated depends on the adapter cord you use.

If you use PocketPCTech's simpler adapter cord that just converts audio output plug size but does not include an answer button or a mike jack, the phone's internal mike is not defeated and stays usable.

If you use their more expensive adapter that has an answer button and a jack for a microphone, the phone's internal mike *is* defeated and you'll need to plug in an external mike.

I use their simpler adapter, and their SoundFeeder FM transmitter. I do sometimes get complaints of an echo, which I deal with by turning down the volume on the car radio, which is the source of the echo!

I have the simpler on that I used on my 6600 with the Monster FM transmitter and it worked great. Now on the 6700 I can still listen to MP3's and make calls using VC but for some reason when the other party answers, they can't hear me! How is it that VC can hear me but not the person on the call. Needless to say I haven't used this rig in a long while
