    A little something for your Sprint PPC660Xs ExtROM

    Just got around to updating the rom and customizing the ExtRom on my replacement 6600 and i decided that the old red sprint logo had to go.

    (looks better on the device -quality reduced for gif)
    Updated Customize.sa.CAB (save Target as)

    to use, just unhide&unlock your ExtRom (Search if you don't know how) and drop this file in the \Extended_Rom folder overwriting the existing one. The next time you hard reset, you'll have all new logos. (you may be able to do it without the hard reset too but i didnt try that)

    the theme&dialer skin is not included. I just didnt feel like swiching back to the defaults for the screenies

    for those interested the only files updated in the CAB are:
    Splash2.nb
    carrierlogo.gif
    Button9.exe
    sprintlogo.gif
    Home_deck.gif
    SPCS_IE_favorite.gif

    the rest are exaclty as I found them.

    A hard reset isn't needed. Nor is getting into the ExtROM. Just run the cab file and do a soft reset. Bam! It is there. Now if you do a hard reset, you will have to do this again unless you put it in the ExtROM. Thanks for this goodie DisgruntledTech. I like the new logo on startup.

    Can I ask what you use to extract, edit, and reassemble the .cab files?

    I have another splash screen image I'd like to use...

    BUMP - this package rocks guys, makes us feel a litte more dated, even if we're not on 6700's (which btw, don't have these new logos).

    Where does it show?

    This is just awesome, thank you.

    Besides the boot-up screen and the itsy-bitsy version on the phone dialer screen, does the Sprint icon show up anywhere else?

    thanks

    yes it does. but i think i replaced every one of 'em in the package.

    Splash2.nb = Splash screen
    carrierlogo.gif = Phone logo
    Button9.exe = shows in settings -> buttons
    sprintlogo.gif = on PIE home page
    Home_deck.gif = on page that displays when you click sprintlogo.gif
    SPCS_IE_favorite.gif = PIE favorites page

    the gif in the first post is animated and shows all of them

    I really hate to self quote but unlocking the ext rom has been covered thoroughly

    Sorry if I got you in a tuff. I don't read the forum religously. I was not sure so I figured I would ask. Didn't mean to put you out.

    Thanks for you kind help!

    You could never know all this stuff by reading the forum.

    The point is that you should *first* search to see if your question has been answered. Then if it hasn't, point out that you *did* search (and what you searched for).

    You'll find that gets you better responses on *every* online forum, no matter how newbie-friendly or unfriendly it might first appear.

    I want this logo on my new PPC-6600, but how can I do this?
    For starters, I'm at work and Websense blocks that CAB link.
    I can't email .exe or .cab files because our firewall will prevent that too. So how can I install this while I'm here, go to a link using PIE on my device?

    You don't.

    One day when your valuable time can be used to read the thread, you'll know how. Until then, you're not ready for it.

    Wow, I never looked into unlocking the ExtROM because I didn't understand the value. After reading Edud's comprehensive list of registry mods in the first link, I am very interested. Thanks for enlighening me (via links) Disgruntledtech and (via instructions) Ehud.
