    Upgrade to 6700??

Is it worth upgrading to the 6700? Have they fixed enough stuff to make it worth it? I know the form factor is different (more like a phone than a PDA).

I have an option at work that they will pay $200 towards the upgrade.

    Thanks!!

Isn't there another forum for this? The traffic here has fallen off so much I wondered if everybody moved over there, or upgraded phones.

Yeah, I was a bone head and didn't look for the other forum before I posted this.

If you say the traffic here has dropped off, I guess that tells me a lot!!!

WM5 shows alot of promise for further development, but that promise is not realized in the 6700, imo. Whether Verizon releases an Apache model is yet to be determined, and if they do, it's certain to be of a more mature build of WM5 than the Sprint model. 1Q-06 is when you should really start to contemplate a migration to a WM5 device, I believe. I'm using both my 6600 and the 6700, and while I get a bit more EV-DO at home with the 6700, that's not enough reason to make the move.

I suspect the slowdown in posting here results largely from most issues having been worked through to the extent possible. If and when an EVDO/ROM/BT update becomes available, there will likely be an upsurge in traffic. Until then, there's not a lot to talk about.

I've moved to the 6700 side now and I would say yes, its worth it. But if you dig the big screen the 6600 offers, then you might want to wait on a patch for EVDO. I personally feel that wm5.0 has allowed me to do a lot more with out the need for 3rd party sw. I'm sticking with the 6700, but if I traveled more and was into sales and a patch came out for the 6600, then I might stay with the bigger screen. Also, I hardly ever used the keyboard on my 6600 and I use the 6700's keyboard a lot. Hope that helps.

    Question

Does WM5 on the 6700 allow for BT headset activation of VoiceCommand?

For those that have both devices, how much thicker is the 6700 than the 6600? How much smaller is the screen?

I have the 6600 and a friend of mine has the 6700. I came from a Hitachi G1000 and she from a Sanyo 8100. The 6700 is thicker than the 6600 but not by much. The screen, when compared side by side, looks small next to the 6600. Honestly, i like the 6600's form factor more: the front sliding keyboard is better for me, as opposed to having to flip the phone sideways...She loves it though. lol. I also love the bigger screen on the 6600. Coming from an Hitachi G1000, i disliked the size of the phone but loved it's screen size, so im really liking the screen on the 6600. Again, she loves the 6700's screen because she says it makes the phone smaller (girls love the smallest phones). The only thing we both really dislike about the 6700 is the fact that it doesnt have pic/vid mail...i could of lived with the smaller screen but no pic/vid mail? You have to send them to email addresses. Lame. I like my 6600 and intend on keeping it awhile (especially with EVDO coming for it).My friend told me she may send the 6700 back and try a treo 650 since all her friends have treo 600-650s.

    Great info. Thanks.

(and I asked here because asking "over there" will get a very biased answer. Besides, I have been reading and searching andn just wanted a different slant)

I had a Treo 600 and thought that it was the best phone/pda out there. But I wanted to go CE so after much reading, I went 6601. I like a lot of the things the 6700 offers and I am a gadget geek, but it is NOT an inexpensive device.

What I would like to do is get to a CE device that is a one-hand friendly as the Treo. But I think that is another version or two out.

Your best bet for 1 handed "treo like" operation from a PPC device will be the "Treo 700w" Of course it comes out on Verizon first so it may not help you. I've only watched the demos but if they did put the treo interface onto the Pocket PC it would be quite compelling for me to move there. That was the best thing about the Treos was the ability to move around easily without a stylus.

If EVDO is available and you are in a coverage area, it may be worth the upgrade to the 6700. Who knows when the Sprint EVDO patch for the 660x or the 700w will be available.
