Can't Get Working As USB Modem (this time)

I've used this on this notebook computer for a while as a USB modem, never had any trouble.

Had to format / reinstall windows.

I don't have ActiveSync installed on the notebook computer at all.

I start up wmodem on the 6600, set it as USB, and hit start.

THEN I plug in the phone via USB to the notebook.

It detects a device plugged in, but it sees it as "unknown device"

This is where the problem begins. I've tried to "update driver" on it, but it doesn't recognize any of the driver file .inf's as a good driver.

The problem seems to be back where it should be seeing it as a PPC6600 modem when I plug it in and start looking for that driver .. it's not detecting it correctly.

    Any ideas ?

PS .. it works fine on my desktop PC in the cradle.

yup, it's there by default on a 6600 (you mean wmodem, right?)

on the pc side i just use the windows one. that's how i've always done it in the past.

    disgruntled tech :

when i point windows at that driver, it says "windows cannot find a driver better than the one currently installed"

it's seems to me like windows is not recognizing the device properly ..

uninstalling doesn't help, it just goes back where it was

when i try to manually install the hardware, it doesn't show up in the list of devices when i point it at a directory.

doubly wierd cause it's a fresh windows install.
