    Sprint -> Verizon conversion OK, ghosts remain

    After switching my PPC6600 to Verizon, it mostly works, but a couple issues remain.

    First of all, here is what I have done:

    1. Loaded Verizon's firmware, which changed the radio and Ext ROM.
    2. Switched SID/NID to a Verizon number.
    3. Loaded a Verizon PRL.
    4. Entered proper MDN and MSID.

    Here is where the ghost remains:
    Under Roaming, there are Home Only, Sprint(!), and AB.
    Why doesn't that say Verizon now? Also, if I tap the Antenna symbol on the header, it says Sprint PCS!

    If I set roaming to Home Only, I can make and receive calls & txt messages.
    If I set roaming to Sprint, I can place calls, but incoming go direct to voicemail.

    Also, my data connection does not work (CDMA wireless) and I have a hunch it's related. It dials, but then says "The answering modem has disconnected".

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    I don't think you have any problems other than data.

    More than likely it's presenting the wrong username/password to get on to Verizon's data network. I'm not sure if it's even possible to change this. I'd check out the programming code thread.

    Yeah, I agree. I can live with Home Only.

    I did enter the xxx@vzw3g.com and vzw password, but there must be something else not kosher.

    The biggest problem is that you have not activated the ESN on the Verizon network. You need vzw to load your esn to that phone number that you put in. Otherwise you aren't going anywhere.
    mmmmm.....Sprint Mogul....!

    I have success!!!!!!!!!!!

    Under the 3G Data1 I switched from "MIP Pref" to "No IP" and it works now! I'm getting 1xRTT speeds at the moment, EVDO is next to look at, I think we have it here.

    skippyrq, I guess I forgot to list another step I had previously done. Thanks for the reply though. I did call to have it activated after the manual provisioning I did. Of course, the *228 stuff didn't go through that they had me do (since my MSL is a Sprint number, not 000000 as per Verizon).

    No, but I'm not giving up hope yet. I'm still trying to find where the remaining Sprint stuff is stored and hoping that may give me a clue. I'm guessing it's got to do with the EVDO authentication.

    Have you flashed to a EV radio ROM? Either HA01_140 or HA01_151?

    I am curious... Can you tell me how you got the Verizon ROM on your phone? Also, what data plan do you have?

    I used the genuine Verizon ROM update first of all (from Verizon's website).

    Lots of instructions on ROM reading/writing/modifying at
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/

    Also

    http://www.myehud.com/xv6600/upgrade/

    *The Process:
    *1. Download This zip file (MaUpgradeUt_noID.ZIP) to your computer.
    *2. Unrar the Verizon file into an empty folder
    *3. Ensure that ONLY these files are in that folder:

    * EnterBL.exe
    * GetDeviceData.exe
    * MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
    * nk.nbf
    * notes.txt
    * RUU.conf
    * RUU.dll
    *4. BACKUP YOUR POCKET PC use Sprite Backup or Activesync or Xbackup for just contacts/calendar/tasks. Make sure that what you use allows you to restore just those things (or use Permanent Save). Do not restore the registry!!!
    *5. Place your pocket PC in the cradle and make sure it is connected via activesync
    *6. Double-click MaUpgradeUt_noid
    *7. If it reports a country-code problem, let it exit and re-run it
    *8. Once the upgrade is complete, hard reset your phone (power button down + stylus in reset hole)

    Ehud has compiled lots of great info.

    I have the pay as you go, $0.015/kb. Just got hit with a $130 bill, and begged, they put me on the $45 unlimited plan and dropped my $130 down to $45 for last month. I miscalculated bigtime, I thought it was going to be $1 per MB, not $10!!!!

    Omnicef, it seems taboo to talk about obtaining PRL's here, so PM me, I have a few.
    I'm still looking for 50405, 06, 07, or 08.

    I have the correct Home SID/NID set to 2 (which is correct for Los Angeles) and I loaded an old PRL that I have found. I still cannot pick up a signal though. Under tools on the phone, roaming choices are Sprint or Automatic. I set to automatic and I think it gets set back to Sprint because if I go back in, it is set back to Sprint. Anybody have any guesses?

    Are you doing a reset after switching the roaming setting? It seems the reset is needed to actually make it switch.
