Please help setup my phone to use as modem

I'll be out of the internet for the next 10 days at home. I need to set this up so I can get online from home.

I got all the files from Ehud's site everything was good to go. But when I started WModem and click start I get error message

    Not Registered To Network

    What does this mean?

Also have have a dial up account that I can use from my ISP as well... can I use that account instead of vision? Since I assume vision would be slower than my ISP's Dial Up.

Oh and how do I find my vision password?

make sure activesync is not running.

you don't need a vision username or password. Just leave it blank. (its in the phone)

oh yea, make sure the phone can get on the web by itself.

have to turn the phone on to get on the internet... the connection is going through the vision services.

When you turn the phone off (like on a plane) nothing goes out of the phone. This eludes to the last statement... can you get on the web wtih the phone by itself? Try turning the phone off... can you still use the web on the phone (Pocket IE)? I bet you can't with the phone application off.

    Drivers loaded
make sure the phone app is on
make sure activesync is off (killed in the tasks)
put the phone in the cradle
Use DUN to dial a connection (or use WModem)
#777 for the number to dial
    Modem chosen is the 6600
    Blank UN/PSWD

I've gotten this under two circumstances:

    1) No signal/really weak signal.
    2) When I've screwed up, chosen "Serial" for the link, hit stop, chosen "USB" and started again without waiting for the phone to restart.

Not much you can do about #1 unless you move to an area with better signal strength. For #2, patience or a soft reset both worked for me.

I first followed the instruction on Ehud's site.... press and hold the end button...... (this turned off my phone) which is a negative.

The phone must be on when pressing the "start" button.... I must have missed something when I read. So I decided to turn the phone on before press start.

Thanks for the help. Working good, beats the hell out of Dial Up on a land line phone....

But why is Vision so slow when connecting to the net from the PPC itself when it's capable of connecting so fast via laptop?

    your welcome!

If I read it correctly you asked "please explain why a Sprint product works differently than it logically should?" That explanation is too long to get into. You just have to learn to live with it. Life is better (at least less stressful) after you finally give up on Sprint making sense.
