6600 as an infrared night-vision device?

I was reading these instructions on turning a crappy old digital camera into an infrared camera, and it occurred to me that it might be possible to do this with a PPC/XV6600.

Seems pretty straightforward on a regular camera, but I'm not sure what if any differences would be involved in doing this on a phone camera.

Anyone know of this being attempted, successfully or otherwise, with a 6600?

Seems to me it could add some neat functionality without sacrificing much, given how poorly the 6600 functions as a regular full-spectrum camera. And the 6600's big screen would be especially useful as a night vision viewer, I would think.

    Thoughts?

Thanks. Never thought of that. I'll just unscrew the light switch from my dining room wall then and stow it in my pack so the next time I'm camping in the backcountry at 12,000 feet and hear something rustling in the bushes at 2 a.m., I'll be ready.

That seems like a pretty damn cool idea!
