    Directory Assistant, Latest Version Info

Today I have posted Ver 3.00 b1 of Directory Assistant at http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/#da

As you may know from previous posts elsewhere in the forums, the free Palm-oriented services at 555-1212.com have been closed down, so all versions 2.0x and earlier will be inoperable for directory queries.

Version 3.x and forward will be using the YP.com server. This server should be more reliable and certainly faster than the 555-1212 server.

The version posted today is a rough Beta. I know at this point there are issues, but many emails have convinced me that people want SOMETHING right now, so here it is. In the coming weeks this will be debugged and enhanced with some accumulated user requests.

    Highlights for Beta 1 (b1):
    • Re-written to access m.yp.com server
    • Does NOT YET handle multi-page (> 24 or so) results
    • Business query results don't yet have accurate error messages
    • Removed Results count parameter from query screens

    Beta 2 Posted

Beta 2 is posted at http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/dadl.html

I've reworked the way I request pages from the server. I'm now patterning my request exactly like the Web browser that's installed on the Treo 600 Simulator, so in theory I'd like to think it will now work on the Sprint units. At any rate, page download speed is greatly increased for me on the 7135!

IMPORTANT: Note that this version still does not support multi-page responses, so business queries that return > 25 results will be truncated. This will be the next major issue addressed, probaby in Beta 3.

Ver 3.00 b3 of Directory Assistant has been posted at http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/#da

Highlights (see the readme file for more details)
    • Now can handle multi-page results so all results of a BUSINESS query that returns a large number of entries can be saved.
    • Disconnect menu item should now work on all devices as long as DA was the app that created the connection in the first place.
    • Preferences: Now there are separate choices for which browser to use for Maps and Directions. Added Web Pro as a new browser choice.
    • Fixed problem parsing entries that have no address.
    • Fix for issue with Directions if the address contains a '#' character. It should now query properly in all browsers.
    • Other misc items

    Beta 7 Posted

Ver 3.00 b7 of Directory Assistant has been posted at http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/#da

This version is required to accomodate the changes YP.com has just made to the format of their business listings. If you've been getting "Unexpected Results" errors for all your biz searches, this is why.
