To those currently using the i760, can your phone do THIS!?

Before I make the jump to the i760 vs the VX6800, and i really do want the i760 like... now..
I want to clairfy a few things to those of you who already have the i760
right now I have the VX6700 as a subto my i730 since it recently broke and they are no longer shipping i730's and i noticed I really hate the 6700 therfore I want to know if the new I730 has these features.
    1. Much faster processcor.. althoughafter reading previous posts, I see its faster already than the i730 and much much faster than the xv6700. but. is it faster than the 6800 too?

    2. remote control. 730 had it.. 6700 lacks it.. i want the 760 to have it too, if not, will the 6800

    3. much more memory. 730 had a LOT. including safestore. 6700 has a LITTLE. i am always getting memory low messages now, as if i am using just a reglular flip phone again, not a pda

    4. Can the memory usage be adjusted? 730 I could choose if i want a little program memory and a lot of storage memory, 6700 can not. will the 760.. or.. the 6800

Well thats all I can think of now. thanks

The processor runs faster, even though it has less MHz. There is a real good thread comparing the speeds. Search for it.

    2. remote control. 730 had it.. 6700 lacks it.. i want the 760 to have it too, if not, will the 6800
No. There is no IR with the i760. You will lose this functionality.

I think the memory is comparable. I would recommend a Micro SD card and move all pictures, music, and applications that you rarely use. I have that today with my i730 and I have no memory issues.

    4. Can the memory usage be adjusted? 730 I could choose if i want a little program memory and a lot of storage memory, 6700 can not. will the 760.. or.. the 6800
No. This can only be done with phones that are WM2003SE or earlier. If you upgraded your i730 to WM5, you would have lost this functionality as well. But of course you don't have to worry about the battery dieing, so it was a good trade-off.

I don't see too much of a speed difference between my WM6 XV6700 and my i760. The processor seems to respond well but is slow when playing some movies and hardly works when trying to play with FPSEce. Where my XV6700 i could overclock the processor to get the performance out of it i wanted. For the XV6800 there is not a program to overclock it either like the i760 as they are newer processors. I personally have not had enough time with a 6800 to test the processor fully.

No IR on the i760, so no remote. The XV6700 and XV6800 both have IR so it is possible with third party apps just not built in...

As far as storage space goes the i760 has about 50MB free where the XV6700 has only about 30MB free, while the XV6800 will be in the neighborhood of 150+MB free with a stock rom. Now as far as available RAM all of these devices are about the same i get around 31MB free after hard reset on my i760, around 30MB free on my WM6 XV6700, and i believe the XV6800 will be just under 30MB so their all about the same. As far as extra storage goes the i760 can only use up to a 2GB card natively, and a 4GB card when hacked so far, while the XV6700 and XV6800 can use larger cards as of now.

This feature was only available in WM2003SE and earlier due to the memory being shared in flash for user ram and rom, also the reason if your battery died you were restoring from a backup( i always had a current complete backup on my SD card)

Hope this helps you to make an informed choice. Also worth noting is that the XV6800 will be EVDO RevA upgradeable as the i760 and XV6700 are not.

When I had a demo 6800 a few weeks ago, it was dog slow... It also seemed to have some type of memory leak. After several hours it would be around 10 MB or available RAM. Launch the camera app and BAM, low memory warnings pop up.

I was not impressed with the speed at all.

    IR

When looking for IR on a device make sure it is consumer ir. The i730 has it and I use it as a remote. On the other hand the standard ir that is on most devices will not have the power to transmit a signal accross a room.

Can the start menu be accessed from the dial pad on the front? I dont see the windows sign anywhere. Or do you have to open the keyboard or use the stylus to activate?

One of the buttons on the right side opens the start menu.

Does the dial pad up front support t9? Overall, you're liking the phone? Hows the Ram? What do you have available after soft reset?

As has been stated over and over again, in multiple threads: NO, the front keypad does not, repeat, does not support T9. It uses the older multitap system.

Both your other questions are also addressed elsewhere... try searching and reading.

This thread is totally appropriate for my questions. The freeking device isnt even released yet, so piss off. But before you do, can you smart dial from the front?

I didn't say that either the thread or your questions were inappropriate; where you came up with that eludes me.

What I did say was that your questions have been answered multiple times, and in multiple threads, and that you might find those answers by searching for them and reading them.

What do you mean by "smart dial"? Folks who have the phone have said that simply punching in numbers (names?) on the front keypad will access the phone directory, and will refine the search as you input more characters. Is that what you mean?

    Cheers!
