Does the i300 work with Macintosh?

Yes, the i300 works with Apple Macintosh computers running OS 9 or OS X, even though the CD provided with the phone contains only Windows software. You will need to download a Mac OS version of Palm Desktop from Palm, and will need to use a converter to attach the phone's supplied cradle to your Macintosh.

If you have a desktop Power Mac or an iBook, you'll need a USB-to-serial converter to connect the i300's supplied cradle's 9-pin PC-style serial port. Converters from Belkin (F5U103-MAC) or Keyspan (several, such as PDA Adapter USA-19 or USA-19QI) work in both OS 9 and OS X. Make sure you've installed any software required by the converter before you install the Palm Desktop software.

If you have a PowerBook with an Infrared port, you can connect to your i300 via the IR port on the top of the phone using Palm Desktop. In OS 9, make sure your Infrared port is not being used by either the AppleTalk or TCP/IP control panels.

With OS 9, or in Classic mode in OS X, use Palm Desktop 2.6.3 from Palm's download site:

In December 2001 Palm released a Public Beta of a native OS-X version of Palm Desktop 4.0. To download the public beta, visit:

Keyspan has released new Mac OS X drivers for their serial adapters.
You can get them off of VersionTracker.
