    Wireless-friendly sites

Ok, so surfing the web on the I300 isn't the fastest thing around. We all knew that. But MAN, some people have some really bloated web pages out there!! I just downloaded news.com and it took 5.5 minutes. It was almost 100k in size (I didn't catch the final number).

    Ugggh.

Anyway - I thought it might be useful to come up with a list of bandwidth-friendly sites. You know, things that are either optimized for a palm w/wireless modem, or useful sites that aren't bloated with >100k worth of content.

I saw a list of sites floating around Usenet once, but can't remember where I saw it. So, maybe we can start adding some here.

I"m working on putting these on some web pages (actually they are I just need a more public place with a good url). The site names are AFTER the URL. Some links are location code, but I thought I'd leave them so you could alter for your use. Some are picked out of portals, some aren't.

    Have fun,
    Gary

    Two questions:

    1) Some of these appear to be AvantGo related -- does that mean the same links are also friendly with Blazer dialup internet on our i300?

    2) Is there any way to create links on desktop software, then synch them to the phone? It will take forever to enter all those bookmarks, but if there was a way to cut and paste, that'd be a huge help.

"I'm working on putting these on some web pages (actually they are I just need a more public place with a good url)." I'll have them posted soon, I've just got to move the pages to another server. I wasn't in a rush beacuse I was hoping some more people might offer some Palm-Friendly URLs...

Yea, paste the bookmarks onto your memo page, then copy them to the browser--too easy!!:o

EudoraWeb will sync with a folder or list of folders in your IE or Netscape Favoritews/Bookmarks.

Eudora will not do graphics though...

How can I cut and paste on the Palm -- isn't that everybody's gripe here? If I put them in Memo (easy enough), how would I transfer them into the Blazer bookmarks, short of reentering them?

    Cut & Paste

Every Palm app I have seen has cut & paste, including Blazer.

Copy the bookmarks from the memo page, open Blazer and paste them into the "go to" page in blazer. Once Blazer takes you to the site, create a new bookmark and save it.

Should take about 20-30 seconds per bookmark, then just a minute while Blazer retreives enough info to create a bookmark. You don't even have to wait for Blazer to load the entire page.

Okay, so let's say you want to transfer, say 50 bookmarks (half of what Blazer will handle). so that's (and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on your figures) 30 seconds + 60 seconds = 90 seconds per bookmark. Now 90 * 50 = 4500 = an hour and fifteen minutes to do this task. I think they are just looking for an easier way... Something with less manual labor.

    Easy as 1, 2, 3...

Just look at this page (the one you're reading) on your palm web browser.

To speed this up, set the load graphics option to "NO".

    1) Pick a page you want.
    2) Bookmark it
    3) Go BACK to this page and repeat step one.

    Re: Re: Cut & Paste

    This is getting crazy.

I cut and paste in new URLs then save them as bookmarks. It works for me. However, I don't think I would ever do 50 at 1 time. I just add new Palm friendly sites as I discover them. Thats all!!
