    By Thor's Helmet!

    Boys and Ladies,

As I posted in another thread, I just was able to get a newly refurbed i500 in exchange for one that was no longer receiving a signal well.

Now with the new (refurb) one, when I plug into my car charger, I no longer get a lightning bolt. Also, and far more important to me, is that when I have it on Vibrate, which is most of the time, it no longer automatically changes to Ring when I plug into the car charger.

I always got the bolt and the change in ring status with the old phone. The only thing that's changed is the physical phone. The charger is the same, and since the bastards at Sprint didn't throw in a freebie, the car is the same also.

Is there a setting I'm forgetting about? Is this just one of those quirks?

    Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Free cars?

    -Jeff

You probably made Thor mad by not taking his hammer in vain... instead favoring his "helmet"...

There is no setting that I'm aware of that turns the lightning bolt behavior on... the i500 just does it automagically. Which means that either 1) your i500 is defective, or 2) the charger you are using is broken or doesn't have the right connections to turn on the bolt. What turns on the bolt is a simple connection within the charging connector. The bolt doesn't have anything to do with whether the i500 is actually charging (hint: the bolt will come on if you plug the i500 into charging cable *even if* the charging cable is not connected to any power source, hence it has no clue whether current is being supplied or not.

So... what charger are you using ? Have you also tried a car charger or USB charging cable ? If none of these turn on the bolt, then it must be that your i500 is broken in this regard...

Fair point re: Helmet v. Hammer...

Like I said, the lightning bolt ain't the important thing to me, as long as it charges.

I'm more concerned with the fact that it doesn't change to "ring" from "vibrate" when I plug it in. That's an important functionality issue for me.

This behavior only takes place with the *car* charger. I bought it from the Sprint store, and it worked perfectly with my previous i500. Same car charger that is now behaving differently. In the cradle, and with the in-wall travel charger, it behaves exactly as it should.

It's the vibrate to ring issue that concerns me rather than the bolt.

    Thor be praised.

I would guess that the "bolt" behavior is tied to the vibrate/sound behavior, i.e. the same internal state in the i500. And so, it is very strange, if I understand you correctly, that with your travel charger, you *do* get the right bolt behavior, whereas with your car charger, you don't -- am I understanding you correctly ?

If so, I would conclude that something is wrong with your car charger: 1) the charger cable has gone bad (broken connection), or the connector is faulty (broken connection in the connector or pins not touching the i500 bottom connector properly). I would suggest checking out these possibilities... Over time, I have found that the bottom connector can get a little flakey.

Recently I too am having BOLT problems. It started with USB cables but now impacts several OEM desktop charges. I do not get the bolt. It I move the phone around in the charges it comes and goes. I would like to know, does any know for SURE that the unit will fully charge w/o the bolt showing up? I know the bolt shows when it cannot be charging (disconnected cable) but does it really fully charge (and not overcharge) w/o the bolt.

Oh Thor or Monkey, what is the truth??

    Thanks,

    BB
    That'sssssssss all folks!

Well, now it doesn't seem to work properly with the travel charger either. It stays on vibrate when plugged in.

    How bizarre, how bizarre.
