will best buy sell these straight up for $599 or do you have to activate and sign up for a contract at this price?

normally, if you dont activate a phone with them, they charge you $200 more than their sticker price.

can anyone verify what their policy on this is?

You don't need to activate a new line of service to purchase a Sprint phone at Best Buy (at the normal price on the sticker). You may, however, encounter a Sprint rep who is swatting at the store who will tell you that you must activate a new line. This just simply isn't true.

Bottom line: when Best Buy DOES get it, you can get it at $599; that is if you're lucky enough to get there on time!

Sprint has a new program that the CS reps can try and sell existing customers a second line of service, theywill get a commission. If you accept, you get $100 off any phone you choose. I tried to order the I500 through the CS and they seemed to lose my order or it got backordered and they couldn't find any record of it. I got a hold of very nice rep who told me that if I went to any Sprint Store that had a service center and found the phone in stock, I could charge it to my Sprint account and they would still credit me $100 off.

I found a phone in stock at a Sprint store and when they rang it up, it was $50 off. They charged me $549 plus tax which was $592. The charge just showed up on my Sprint account today so I called and they credited my account $100. I now owe $492.

If you look on the Sprint page for the I500, it does say save $50 now.

In order to do this sale, the CS rep had to annoate my account to authorize the Sprint store to charge my account.
