    Finally did it.....

It was a long time coming, but I finally had to give up my i500. I hated it, but the web Nazis were about to swoop down on everyone using "unsafe" corporate email programs like BCPE. The Treo 700P came two days ago, had to switch from Desktop to Outlook first; I reinstalled the i500 software, had it sync to Outlook, then resynced; then I uninstalled the old software, reinstalled the Treo software and synced, which resulted in some duplication in contacts (since I had two lists) but nothing horrifying. Then the big test: could my IT guys get Versamail and Activesync to work with our Exchange server. Took about 5 minutes, works like a charm....first impressons are good...being able to open attachments, great screen, EVDO is unbelievably fast, this version of Blazer is excellent, already have the entire device backed up on a card...carrying it is horrible, however, and I still keep looking at the forlorn Samsung on the corner of the desk wistfully. If this machine works out over the next few weeks, I'll be selling the i500 with cradle, two cases, three batteries, software, a few extra styli.....but we'll see. I wanted to thank Scott, Blazerboy and all the regulars on this board for helping make the i500 more usable for everyone.

We will miss you, but every good wish with the 700p--the only unit out there that attracts me (were it not for its size).

Thanks also for the information; I'm still flying below the IT Nazis using BCPE. Does your company install Versamail on its servers? Or does it allow your copy to access its servers. In either case you do not have to have your own computer on, I suppose. Not sure how that works.

    Happy Holidays!

    That'sssssssss all folks!

BB, it doesn't exist on their servers; they allow it, together with Activesync, to sync with the Exchange server. Your computer does not have to be on like with BCPE. And the reason I had to switch to sync with Outlook is because on the initial sync with Versamail, it automatically syncs with Outlook mail, calendar, notes, and everything else. Since I wanted to make sure if I entered anything into my PC it ended up on my Treo, I had to sync with the Exchange server, so all my memos, tasks, appointments and contacts have to be on the Exchange server, not in Desktop. By the way, the wireless sync is painfree. I did end up with some duplicate contacts, which was no surprise, and I got a sync error which occured because my Contacts folder on Outlook was in the wrong place. Once I reset the folders, it worked like a charm. I don't like carrying the phone; I haven't found what looks like a good case, and it's big and slippery, but the reception is much better than the i500 in most areas and the EVDO is so fast that it's amazing. But it has warts too....I would have gladly gone with an i550 if possible......
