Great work i330 (or should we call you i550). Wonder whether the sync port will be the same--be able to use any of the i500 accessaries??

    Soft Keys

Looking at the User's Manual, the 3 Soft Keys on the outside not only control the MP3 player, but also allow call waiting switching. Hopefully they'll be programmable as well.

Talking Just 11 Months to Go!

Oh boy, only 11 months to go. At least, that was the lag between the i500 approval (August 2002) and release (July 2003). Check out this old forum:

    I-500 FCC approval?

Surely it won't take that long this time - we already went through this with the first generation. Maybe Christmas (there goes my bank account again) - but I'm still sticking with my April 11, 2005 prediction.

    re: 11 months to go

dstrauss - I was wondering the same thing about the i500 fcc approval to store shelf time window... and how the I550 will compare.. ... i too suffered thru that long wait, but I do think the I550 will be a little bit quicker to show it's face... I'm still sticking with my Aug 1 2004 guess... fingers crossed

    Clint:

I hope you're right, if for no other reason thaty I'm about to break a personal record for keeping a PDA, almost 6 months now - even my wife thinks I must be losing my grip.

It has a long way to go as far as a cell phone record, however. I had my trusty Samsung 8500 for three-plus years. Now that was a solid piece of hardware - I know - no Vision, color, etc. but it never failed me (can't say that for either the i500 or Treo 600).

I can agree with you on the 8500... I carried one for about 2 years, and I still say that is the most solid built regular cell phone to date... it didn't have all the "buttons and switches" like the I500 or T600... but the 8500 could take a lickin and not blink.. very good piece of hardware....

I had one of the original gray-black 8500 units that was solid as a rock - except I broke the screen (don't ask). Replaced it with a silver one, which was nearly as good. Now, if Samsung can just bring that build and quality control to the i500 series, I'll be back in the fold (oh yea - they HAVE TO FIX THE CRUMMY hotsyncs)

Every now and then several XP computers object to the USB connection (saying via a message from the tray it is not working) altough (so far) they do the hot sync. Worrisome for the future.

Maybe it was because my i500 was one of the first released, but I usually only got 1 out 4 hotsyncs to work. More than just a system tray warning - it just flat wouldn't recognize the device. Used to have to either reboot; reset com port; or turn off phone radio (sometiems all three). Do a search in the i500 forum and you'll see a lot of complaints on this issue.

Mine will not sync a few times when I push the button on the cradle, but I've never had as severe issues as you describe.. I sync w/ an XP pc at work, and win2k at home..
