    Database Issues - Search

We are doing some maintenance on the database to try and solve the performance problems that we have seen over the last few days. During this time, I had to disable Search. It will be back later today. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Keep in mind that we are VERY well indexed in Google, so you may want to try searching in google... with "pdaphonehome + your search terms", and you'll most likely land back where you wanted to be here.

Search is backonline, but slow at times. We completely rebuilt the search index last night... it took all night to do. I don't think that was the issue.

We are now looking at a kernel update that was done late last week, at about the time we started having problems.

I think our problems have been corrected... we had a backup script that had run away with itself and was hogging the server's resources. Hopefully that was it.

    Search functionality

Just a note, since I don't see anyone else mentioning it over the last few days, the search doesn't seem to be working, and the page that comes up telling you about the problem has a link to email tech support, but the link is empty. Thought you might like to know; if not, let everyone flame me for this too, no one really helps anymore anyway, blah.
    Thank you.
    I think.

Sorry about the delay in getting that fixed guys... I was out of town for a few days. This is the same problem as before that recurred, but it is fixed now.

One thing that makes google less attractive is the inability to focus the search on a particular forum.

Adding the device name (7135, etc) to the google search has been less than useful - many times it is hitting on the menu text which has a list of all devices.

Do you have any suggestions on using google to better effect?

It would greatly reduce your bandwidth and processor load if we could use the main stream search engines ... might be worth some considering making plain text URL aliases (if possible) for google to better index. Then we could google "SITE:www.pdaphonehome.com/forums/7135/downloads ring-tones lone-ranger"

Search seems to be working OK now, so I'd suggest using that mainly. I was only suggesting Google because we had a problem with Search when this thread was opened.
