Question Safari not always recognizing login

I regularly check the Samsung i730 forum from one of three computers, two of which are Macs (using Safari 2.0.4) and one of which is a PC (using IE 7). When checking the i730 forum from either of my Macs, I frequently (but not always) will find that when I first go to the i730 forum, it does not show me as being logged in and does not reflect which threads I have viewed. As soon as I go to a thread, though, it automatically recognizes me as being logged in. This never happens to me on my PC. Initially, I thought it might be a corrupt cookie, but it happens on both my Macs (what are the odds of both computers having the same corrupt cookie)?

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas what might be causing it and how I can resolve it?

What do you mean by "resetting" Safari? Also, what version of Safari are you using?

Jay, check to see if it has a www in front of pdaphonehome.com or if it doesn't. I have noticed under FireFox that some people have links without the www and some with the www, and unless you have a cookie for each, it won't show you as logged in.

So make sure that when you access the site from those computers that it is always from the same link.

Also it could be that your cookies are timing out (most likely not the problem), but you might try clearing your cache and cookies and then setting a new cookie (and make sure you access everything from a www link or without it, but always use the same one).

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, Michael. As usual, you're a genius. I noticed that the link in my links bar was for www.pdaphonehome.com, but whenever I clicked on a thread, the thread's address was shown without the www. I'm not sure why, but Safari does not seem to be saving the cookie for the www address. The easy fix was to delete the bookmark to www and to set up a new one for just http://www.smartphoneforums.com/forums/[forumname].

Again, thanks for solving another little mystery.

Thanks, redstar. I never realized the Reset Safari command was in that menu. I'll try to remember it for future problems.
