Question Speed Dial with extra digits

Has anyone figured out how to add a speed dial on the Treo 650 (Verizon) with extra digits WITH a PAUSE? When I add it, I get an error: "Invalid charachters in phone number."

Search the archives for TakePHONE - great software that has it buit in - or you can follow the directions to put the number, with the pause and such, in the FAVORITES section of your phone.

I get the same error in favorites. I have Takephone, I'll take a look at that.

When all else fails - read the instruction book - that's how I figured out how to do it correctly in Favorites.

(It was not my first instinct, by the way - reading the instruction manual should be the LAST thing you need to do on well designed equipment.)

Isn't it the letter 'p' to create a pause in a speed dial? I believe that is what I used.

p is for a hard pause (pause until you click a button to release the pause), t is for a timed pause (2 seconds per "t"). The problem is the phone seems to reject the letters in the favorites and speed dials.. It doesn't reject it in contacts.

I just took a try at this on my 600 (I assume it is similar to adding a Favorite on a 650.)

I entered the name and 10-digit phone number and then hit the MORE button. Any additional digits that you normally dial after the 10-digit phone number, including "p"auses can be added there.

I hope I am giving you something of use here. If not, just let me know.

    Good luck, Keith

I figured it out with TakePhone. it's an "x" for a pause, "," for timed pause. I have no idea how to do it with the Treo, perhaps it's the same.

btw, I tried your method and I still get the error about invalid charachters.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,

As far as I recall, the Treo does not allow for pauses in favourites, except for the single one caused by the "extra digits" mechanism.

I may be wrong, but I recall this was the results of my tests...

    Hi,

I tought you meant additional "hard" pauses within a number.
Never check of "timed" pauses (commas)

that leads to the question: can you program the number keys (2-0) as speed dial-since they are already displayed and you would not have to scroll down.

    inquiring minds want to know.

    thanks!

Do you mean the favorites buttons? If so, yes, but you have to use the letter instead of the number as the quick key.

Yes you can. The only trick is.... You have to use the LETTERS that the number buttons share.

    For instance:

    Program Speed dials for
    1-E
    2-R
    3-T
    etc...

actually i mean the numbers keys not the programmable letter keys. the one (1) key is preprogrammed with the cell # (previous phones were set with #86) but i haven't found where you can add pauses or passwords. so i thought to program the two (2) key, etc. with speed dial numbers. but it doesn't seem that is possible. or am i missing it?

    suggestions?

You are missing it. Read the instruction book. It is VERY CLEAR how to set up extra digit dialing from the Favorites menu.

i have, i did, i am. there is no reference in the 650 to setting numeric speed dialing. you CAN assign favorite BUTTONS (located below the dial buttons) but i'm talking about the #1, 2, 3 through 0 as speed dial numbers. i see no place to set the numeric keys (except the preset #1)
