Has anyone been able to connect to the Internet without a DataPlan?

I was able to do this on my 600, and now, on the 650, I cannot.

I click onto Blazer and this happens..

    Service Connection Progress...
    Connecting to National Access...Signing On.

    Service Connection Progress..
Error; Please check your username and try again. Your mobile service provider may not support dial-up connections.

I did try creating a new connection

    Here's what I did...

Under Preferences, Network I created a new connection

    Service, vzw
    Connection, Standard Modem
    User Name, qnc
    Password, qnc
    Phone, 777

Under Advanced I left the defaults

    IP Address: Automatic (checked)
    Query DNS: checked

Has anyone been able to connect this way or any other way without a data plan?

The fact that I was able to do this on my Treo600 leads me to believe that it can be done.

Please post if you know, Thanks much!

I forgot to add that I do have a "1x" on my phone screen. I would think that this would make a difference, no?

You are in luck, this seems to be the topic of the day, and is in lotsa threads already posted

The directions for 1X are HERE

Word to the wise: People who have bugged VZW about this have been removed from MOU. If you make a lot of noise about it they will respond in kind.

the answer to your question i believe, is that using National Access (fee of 44/mo unlimited service) does not use the QNC set. so you have to subscribe to use it.

having said that, check out the link above and it will tell you how to use the old QNC system on your 650. you need to make a new set up NOT using National Access.

Copasetic, sorry to be so thick-headed on this one but both of the sites listed above do nothing for me. The first link you gave me,

Talks about Scripts and such. There is no place to create scripts on my Treo650. Under Network, the only connections I can create are National Access or a new one which I have to name out using my own words.

    Once I create that, the next next drop down box I get options for is the "Connection" box, of which I can select the following;

    High Speed Wireless
    Virtual Modem
    Standard Modem
    Cradle/Cable
    Ir to A PC/ Handheld
    Edit Connection...

The next drop down box is
    "user name"

The next drop down box is
    "Password"

Then, down below I get the following options...

    Done, Details, Connect

Under the "Details" tab, I get the following options...

    Mobile Ip: check or uncheck
    HA Password: 'Tap to set"
    Primary HA: .......o.........o.........o.............
    Secondary HA: .......o.........o.........o.............

and on this page at the bottom, I have 3 options

    "OK, Cancel, Advanced"

Under the Advanced tab, I get the following...

    IP Address check/uncheck AUTOMATIC
    Tunneling: Reverse/Forward
    MN-HA SPI: ................
    MN-AAA SPI...................

So that's all the options I have anywhere in the prefs/network area. Nothing about scripts and nowhere to enter it in.

As far as the 2nd link concerning the directions for 1x, I assume what you mean when you say 1x is that "1x" literally shows up on the phone as it does with mine, but that's the extent of it. The link you gave me...

How do I setup a Verizon Express Network 3G Connection?

The only way I can get to a place where enter a phone number in is by selecting 'Virtual Modem" or "Standard Modem" then I can put in the phone number "#777" without quotes.

Then I click on Details, where the only drop down box I have is the "Idle timeout".

The options at the bottom of this page are..

    OK, Cancel, Advanced..

If I click on the Advanced button, I get the following options...

IP Address: Automatic is checked or unchecked
    Query DNS, checked or unchecked

At the bottom, I have 3 options,

    "OK, Cancel, Script"

If I hit Script, I get 1 drop down box with the following options...

    Wait For
    Wait For Prompt
    Send
    Send CR
    Send User ID
    Send Password
    Delay
    Get IP
    Prompt
    End

Where exactly should this script be going and from what drop down box. Then when the script is done, should I be clicking on the newly available box, and if so, which one, end?

Sorry to be so anal about this, but I just can't seem to get this right.

    Thanks in advance

    Talking You can do it

Yes... with Verizon Wireless, you can connect, but you will have to pay through the wazooooooooooo per minute used. Go with a plan. More fiscally responsible!

? No, you would pay out of your existing minutes, which you probably don't use all of every month anyway.

    Duugg,

Your settings are correct except for the modem. Change Standard Modem to Virtual Modem. Then it should work. I believe you'll still need a Pay As You Go (PAYG) plan on your account, but the assumption is if you use QNC, you won;t be billed for the data.

To my knowledge, that assumption hasn't been proven yet.

edit: The phone number should be #777 and not just 777.
