Why is the battery icon always showing that it's being charged?

I got my me a PPC6600 and my gf a treo 650 and boy am I glad I got the PPC. But that's another story....

Her battery icon always have the little lightening sign showing that it's being charged, so there's no way we can tell when it's charging and when it's not. Is this an OS thing or what?

If the lightning bolt is green- fully charged
if the lightning bolt is red - charging

also If the light is red its charging, if it is green it is not.

this is clearly covered in the first few pages of the manual

What I mean is that the lightening bolt is always there no matter if it's pluged in the charger or not.

the lightning bolt changes color as I stated above. It is not an indication of charging as you suggest, but shows the status of the battery. Lighting bolt means plugged in to external power source. The color of the lightning bolt is important.

There is no lightning bolt if the phone is operating on battery power alone, or if the phone is operated with no battery but a power cord.

again, this is all covered in the manual

if you have a lightning bolt when the phone is not connected to an external power supply then your phone is broken

Your phone could be defective. That same problem happened with my Sanyo and Samsung. If you want, I can send you the key for Pocket Mechanic. That might help. I paid for the program, but no longer own my 6700.

No problem, but delete your e-mail address from this forum after I send you the key. I don't want you getting spammed.
