That's how the treo650 works. the kyo phone app seems to have been a "DA" like program, so the palm app you had running would never "quit" when on the phone.

As for dialing a number you've highlighted, you can copy and paste it into the phone app (takes a few keystrokes) or use TakePhone and its helper application, which does what you want.

I just pulled out my Verizon manual because I could have sworn it said you could do this. But what it says is it "recognizes most phone numbers that appear in WEB PAGES or in TEXT, EMAIL or MULTIMEDIA MESSAGES." (caps mine)

I'm assuming those last three are grouped together with "messages". It will recognize it in a "text message" but not "text" as in Memo.

    I've had a Kyocera 7135 and now I have a TREO 650

The TREO 650 can do anything that the Kyocera did (except flip close) and it usually does it better.

You have to buy some additional programs to allow for missing functions.

This can be problematic since you have to shell out the additional money, but in my opinion, it's well worth it.

FieldPlus does exactly this. I too went from 7135 to 650 and missed this function.
You basically highlight or select and number in any app you are running, then press the oval button on the 5 way. Then you can choose dial the number.

    Works good.
