    Turning off blinking LED

Anyone figured out how to turn off the blinking LED yet?

Or even better, turn it into a notification for unread e-mail/voicemail?

The 650 people have figured out how to control it. Perhaps it can be ported to WM5.

Yes, this would be nice. When I'm staring at my screen, the green LED is very bright and very annoying.

Put a tiny piece of silver vinyl over the light?

well, i guess that would stop the constant blinking from being annoying, however it wouldn't help solve the battery drainage issue, nor would it be a step in the right direction for possibly programing the light to be a new voicemail notification..

I found this registry edit on the xv6600 forum when I had my xv6600 and it worked great. You just gotta be willing to edit the registry:

To keep the Green LED from flashing or coming on at all go to

Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/NLEDMGR leave the dll name as NLEDMGR.dll

Change the Index value below it to "0" it is currently set to "1".

This seems to completely shut off the LED and keeps it from getting called up.

Make sure you soft reset after making the reg. change.

That doesn't work, unfortunately. The NLEDMGR doesn't exist.

I did try messing with "FrontLight", "Keylight", and "NLed", to no avail.

I did read something over on the TreoCentral forum that with WM5, you need to wait several minutes for the registry change to be written to permanent memory BEFORE you do a soft reset. Otherwise, your changes will be trashed. Could you try this with one of the entries above, like NLed?

    Hmm... I did.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/Builtin/FrontLight
Changed "Index" from 1 to 0
    Waited 8 hours
    soft reset - no effect

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Drivers/Builtin/Keylight
Changed "Index" from 0 to 1
    Waited 1 hour
    soft reset - no effect

NLed does not have an "Index" key to change.

You only have to wait a minute or two for the changes to take effect......open another app after exiting regeditor, give it a minute and then you can soft reset.

Remember that old line, "Be careful what you wish for; you may actually receive it!" One of the biggest complaints in the PalmOS forums is that the latest Palm handhelds don't have this LED, so users are never sure if the battery is completely charged or not. The first thing I noticed when I plugged in my new 700w was the LED: "Gee that's great! Why couldn't they do that for their PDAs?" I LIKE and WANT this LED. Palm already shaved a few cents off each 700w by cutting the RAM; don't suggest that they cut other features or they'll gladly oblige.

I use PIE and Word Mobile throughout the day, and when I'm reading the screen, I never notice or am distracted by the LED.

Well said! I for one dont mind the blinking LED at all. What bothers me is that it does nothing else, like flash red and green for voice mail and or text messages. Why do you have to turn the screen on and look for new messages when theres an LED? And why no audible reminder? The blinking LED is helpful and should be better used in my opinion.
For anyone looking for something that does all this, including disabling the LED Im using phonealarm v1.3 beta. So far so good. It blinks the LED slow and steady when you have a reminder and it does audible reminders. Yes it is a beta for WM5. You can check it out at http://www.pocketmax.net

    Reg Hack for LED!

Having said what I did above, I did find this over at treocentral.com.

This works on both various WM03 and WM05 devices to turn off the blinking led lights:

    Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/AllLEDMgr

Change the Index value from 1 to 0

    Soft reset if needed

Have fun! Long live the blinking LED!!!!

Oh yeah, they recommend this for the hacking, Tweaks2k2 from ctitanic.

We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

Unfortunately Hkey_Local_Machine/Drivers/Builtin/AllLEDMgr doesn't exist on the Treo 700w.

    That should be http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm

I don't see an option to disable the LED, however.

Look under settings, advanced settings, towards the bottom is Disable LED's.
